Dunno, that's why I wuz arsking. Sounds reasonable translation though. Thanks Happs.
MR. G. Thanks for your thoughts. Am on heavy duty painkillers at moment which I very very rarely take.
OK, with a better frame of mind I shall stay up tonight to see what is what with the Olympics.
Just finished making the pumpkin and ginger soup for tomorrow... put a ton of ginger in, and some nutmeg, cinnamon and crenme fraiche.
Have decided to have a bit of an Olympic theme for the dinner tomorrow. Piccy will be put up tomorrow after I decorate. Except there're no wattle trees in the vicinity, so a Banksia will have to do.

Need advice on how to deal with a 2 day Irish wedding coming up on the 24th August folks ! Away in a hotel.
Really do not know what to do
I could have wine with meal & that's that ! or I can continually give excuses as to why I am not drinking. I have already being doing that for past 40 days and it seems my family are watching when I will be back on 'the jar'
Just the WHOLE two days will revolve around pubs & music and late nights. There is little else to do.
This is one I cannot get out of
I tell yiz I'm scared :upset:

Picked up more than I went for at the markets.. some brilliant marinated olives, a smoked duck leg, chilli smoked salmon, and tracked down some great sourdough (no, the famous Berry Bakery bread is NOT what it's cracked up to be... it is always tough, overcooked and dry... ) I got mine from some guy who comes from a bakery somewhere in Villawood.
Now that's an interesting concept Happs, thinking of wine as vinegar...
I bought a bottle of bubbly and a bottle of red for tomorrow for the guests, along with heaps of orange juice and old fashioned lemonade. Some of the red will go in the shanks. None will go down me .

Have you thought about not giving any excuses?
How about "I've been drinking too much (lately ) so I thought I'd ease off". Or, "I don't feel like drinking". Simple, to the point, end of discussion.
That's what I did and no one really cared one way or another. They just said "oh, OK" . No-one got heavy and asked if I had a drinking problem.
When someone offers you a drink it can be so damned hard to refuse, but that one sentence worked so well for me.
And you have a ready made excuse if it's going to go over two days. That's a lot of drinking time, so all the more reasonable for people to accept you don't want to be drinking the whole weekend.
You don't have to give excuses to people all the time. That is probably putting a lot of pressure on yourself.

Suggestion......Arrive late and leave early. Have an exit plan. This will ruffle a couple of feathers, but would mean you'd need to have your own transport arranged and on call. Can you just do the wedding itself, pay your respects, then nick off? I know it sounds radical, but just an idea if you are feeling at risk of breaking your excellent AF run. People/family who value and respect you will understand and go with it. The people who mind don't matter. You have made an appearance, paid your respects, enjoyed yourself, but just fooked orf a bit early that's all. Brian, Fred, Janice and Mary will just have to catch up with you later on in the week. I'd suggest your own transport for this. Just some thoughts/suggestions seeing you asked. We must be ruthless in our early sobriety and protect it at all costs.

My mum wanted me to have a drink with her this weekend and I told her I was on antibiotics and she didn't say a thing. I know it's not a long term solution but it worked for me short term - cant be on antibiotics for ever"Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans" - John Lennon

Just saw a great tacking duel in the 470's. Very quick boats.

It's tough when our parents get crook that's for sure, and you are dealing with this, and i'm sure much more, in relatively early sobriety. That's something else Mam.
