Hahaha! Ah, you're all so lovely. It's so nice to see all of you. Anything much changed since I've been away? Or are you all as nutty as ever?

I remember you Kim and so glad to hear that you have found the way out and that your doing well. As for myself I also found my way out and I am now 14 months sober.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Wow Kim, what a cheap promo...

Why don't you offer 100/ 1000 copies of your memoir for free to the most senior members of this forum..?

Somewhat you remind me of Steven Frei/ Fry...whatever he's name is, who...brought the lousy Opra show down.

Cheap promo? Well, it IS cheap at 6.99 a copy, and this sure is a target audience, but we know Kimberley well, and we know her struggles. And that is the difference. She walks the talk, and is leading by example. (Look, ok. She probably now has a roller skating addiction. Do you know how much a pair of skates are these day's?!)

She has found something she is passionate about (Recovery), and is spreading the word that people can overcome the hell of addiction and take their lives back again.

Kim has a lot to offer, and if i can pick up a strategy/idea or 2, or take away some inspiration from her words, her experience, that's not worth 6.99, that's gold, and possibly lifesaving.

She is one of us, and we love her. She has been through the hell many of us go through, and she has come out the other side smiling. She is an inspiration, and look, don't even buy the book. Check out her posts here free.

Anyone who is beating their addiction, and is living a happy healthy life may just be able to share a thing or 2 to support others to take back their precious lives. You can't put a price on that.

                Beth,

I remember you very much. I completely agree with everything Mr. G said and am so glad you have taken your personal experience and used it to help others. People still in the grips of alcohol need to know it is very possible to beat this thing - thank you!

                    Hi Nelz,

I suppose for me, Quitting is a one off act, where as recovery is the ongoing daily process of repair we go through. Repair as in healthy eating, exercise, positive mindset, having some effective coping strategies in our toolbox. Of course, there is usually a lot to recover and repair after such prolonged abuse of ourselves, and for me that means physical, emotional, mental, 'spiritual' repair and recovery. I suppose the action of maintaining the quit is recovery? Not sure if that's what you meant. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Others will probably have different interpretations.

                    Hope all's well there buddy.

Thanks for the input G.....Im just sort of confused. I have for sure stopped drinking, but the desire crops back up once in a while. So Im wondering if there should be some sort of "recovery" process, or do I just keep "white knuckling" it.

But what you say makes some sense to me

                        Nelz,

Of course, i'm not one to listen to, but it sounds like you might need a positive tweak to your mind set when you get these thoughts? By that i mean can you cultivate and develop more of a gratitude mind set over any deprivation thinking that may creep in from time to time? I think the desire crops up now and then for everyone, but does the way you handle these thoughts need a tune-up?

There is also the possibility of a thing called P.A.W.S. (post acute withdrawal syndrome) which is kind of an extended withdrawal period some of us can go through that i think can last up to 18 months.(You'll need to google that or search this site for info).

Give this question a run in monthly abs thread for some better insight, or pm Doggy girl, Lav, Mario, Greeneyes, and other longer termer's who i know will be very happy to share their thoughts. Of course, Miss Kimberley will have some idea's.

I know for me being glad those shit days are over is key to maintaining my sobriety and resisting the urges that will pile in if I let them. I never thought of my thinking as gratitude but I guess it really is. I know that I don't miss it, don't want to return to the destructive drinking days ever and I only remember the bad times now not the romanticized, imaginary good ones.

Yay! Great to hear some more success stories. And thanks for sticking up for me guys! I feel very close to this community, because it was here for me when I was first trying to get sober, and with all the ups and downs.

I wrote the book because I didn't want to see any more people struggling. It's not going to make me mega-bucks or anything! I wrote it because I now run my own business and it's a lot of hard work! I get emails all the time from people wanting to know what I did, but I just don't have the time to email everyone individually. So I put down all the stuff in a book.

I do lots of free stuff, including videos, articles, blogs and I take as much time as I can to reply to individuals - but there is only one of me! I have to live my life and make enough money to feed myself or I won't be any good to anyone. I can't share what I know and help others if I'm living in cardboard box somewhere.

I specifically didn't put a link because I don't want to be promo-y! But the info is there if people need it. If people don't know me, read back through my posts, get to know me, then you'll see what I'm really like. If you want the free stuff, check out the link in my profile, which takes you to my website where there are links to all the videos, articles etc. Or even better, go check out my part of the Tigger tour - that was hilarious

It's great to know there are people in this community that support me and what I'm doing.

                              Big love :l

And to Nelz - there is a massive difference between sobriety and recovery. I too did the white-knuckling thing, and it was hell. As G said and Molly before, there has got to be a fundamental shift in your mindset. It takes a bit of time and practice to get your thinking straightened out, but that, for me, is a massive key to recovery. Cultivating gratitude, always focussing on the positive, drawing a line in the sand, forgiving yourself and others, not thinking of yourself as deprived - but rather, free. With practice it does come.
