    mild depression

Cashregister;1366863 wrote: Can I just reiterate that the purpose of this article is to say that treatment needs to be holistic and include tools such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness training. If you don't make a concerted effort to re-wire the way you think you will not get better - no pill or supplement will provide an instant cure for depression, be it an antidepressant or something else. ( and I can find thousands of references to back this up in academe)
I think it would be remiss of me not to point this out as it also relates to giving up alcohol - you can stop drinking but if you don't put the hard yards in to change the way your brain reacts to triggers you will be constantly looking for the next miracle cure while you keep on obsessing over alcohol.
I agree with you that pills are just like a pain killer and not for long lasting solution. The long lasting solutions are as you hinted here in RED.
Thanks for a great reminder !

This is a good book I used when starting out Amazon.com: Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think (9780898621280): Dennis Greenberger, Christine Padesky: Books
You might want to google dialectical behavioral therapy as that is used in a lot of addiction therapy.

Hope that's enough non clinical options - a good doc or therapist can help - but if the inividual doesn't want to change thinking patterns and put in some pretty challenging work - they - clinicians in all their forms - are basically useless.

I'm pretty resistant to self-help books too. Hahahaha! I hope this Amoryn works, by god.

I will look into the books, cashy. Thank you for offering real solutions and taking the time to post.

I don't like your average self help book either but there are good workbooks that take you through this step by step. Behavioral therapy is a very active therapy and it needs practice. All the books in the world don't replace an active and successful treatment programme - most of them are pure navel gazing bollocks IMHO

I am not emphasising any approach except an integrated one.

I have to give Lav the credit for motivating me to start taking Amoryn. She swears by it. I will take one in the morning, and one tomorrow afternoon, as the instructions dictate...We'll see how it goes.
