The People Business Sucks
Being in the people business sucks. People have no respect for others and I have a hard time dealing with people who disrespect. This may be one of the reasons I drink? Anyone have any thoughts?Starting over again 09/06/11

Try not to let other people's stupid comments, actions, etc., ruin your day or life. That can only happen in if buy into it.
Try really hard to ignore it and just be grateful when the transaction is over that you are not married to them. That's how I get through dealing with a$$holes anyway. Just smile and get through it. It's easier said than done, but a smile can cure a lot.
You can't control other people, but you can control your reactions. Try not to waste the energy.
That's what my good days are like, anyway!

"No one can make you feel anything without your consent" - Eleanor Roosevelt (probably misquoted, but you get it)
Don't let yourself get dragged down by these people. My own little mantra (kept strictly in my head I might add) is"You're a w*nker, I'm not. I win."

I went to a seminar once and the speaker said who here went into the restaurant business because they like people, then said well if you do now you won't. Point being that providing a service and running the business have to be separate from personal feelings. I know its hard but if you stop yourself from letting people get to you and know your doing not just a good job but doing a great job the satifaction will come from that.
Take care,
Sammys

If you can, try to look at it as a learning experience Change. You may as well get something out of it while you're there (besides the paycheck of course!) I deal with a lot of difficult people (aka a&&holes!) at my job all day long. Many of them are spoiled rich brats, and many are super-anal hypochondriacs, or both, etc. I saw them disrespecting me at every turn. I saw them all as a just another reason to have a drink at the end of the day, and even blamed them for making my life miserable.
But now I've quit drinking & have been able to face them with a clear head & clear personal boundaries. Overall, being at this job has taught me a lot about my own strengths & weaknesses, mainly because the people I deal with are so "challenging" - I think you know what I mean. In the same way that another job may offer challenging mental or physical work, customer service jobs & "people business" jobs typically offer challenges in the people dept. So, if you're up to it, see if you can USE the job to teach you things about yourself, rather than letting the job use you. I hope this helps!

It does seem to be we live in a society where people are only looking out for themselves and have no regard to the fellow man. The only thing I can suggest is to be the person who kills with kindness. I do that in my life now. If someone is rude or disrespectful, I just blow it off and smile. Words only have as much power as you give them. These people are living their lives in misery and misery loves company. Don't enable them. Just smile and walk away!
