    Tail Between the Legs Thread

Tips - I have never posted on your thread, but i do avidly follow it. I think you have asked questions and provoked discussions and allowed people to be open and honest with their own vulnerability. This is a damn well needed thread. Folks need it and folks want it. Similarly we need and want you to stay, y'hear?!

OK I'LL STAY... (insert silly grin)!! You guys are AWESOME! All I am on here is honest. I allow my true, conflicted feelings to spill out... and boy am I one confused little Canuck.

What I never really believed before lately is the true and utter hold alcohol has on our brain chemistry. I was smug enough to really think that if I wanted it enough I could just stop without putting a plan in motion. ALL my A/F attempts have included NO supplements, regular exercise, hypnotherapy, AA or other tools. I really feel for those who drink to blacking out nightly because if I had reached that point, I am not sure whether I could have saved myself with my start-stop habits.

So, yes, this is a journey and thanks to all of you for acknowledging that this thread is helpful in their journey. Let's keep rooting for each other. Phew.

I read many of them with interest, my situation is much the same as yours, others aren't. There are plenty of other places for those people to post - your thread is clearly labeled! No one has ownership of these boards - your route is as valid, valuable and interesting as any other. I totally agree with you; whilst it can be inspiring to see the many successful stories, for those who are in a different place maybe they need to read threads such as this.

          A big thank you Tipperlette!!:thanks:

That is a unique idea you have in counting your A/F days per month with the intention to be as abstinent as possible without beating yourself up. I could learn alot from you my friend.

Your body naturally hates it because it's poison, now you just need to get your mind to hate it too. There is no buzz in the world that is worth your self-esteem and sanity. Alcohol takes all the good from you and only leaves despair in it's place. There was one particular thing that REALLY stood out for me in Jason Vales book...it said "When you pass out, that is your body making the choice to keep you AWAKE or ALIVE"....huh. Imagine, every night my body was forced to make that decision...do I stay awake or do I keep breathing, because I'm so poisoned right now that I can't do both!!??? That scared the bejeezus out of me. Once my ego accepted what my mind was trying to convince me of & they were finally in agreement, a huge battle was won.

Now in honesty, I've only been really trying on recovery for, hmm... six yrs. The drinking had been going on much longer than that. I think I may have found the right size.

I did want to address that in one of your posts you mentioned that you aren't a daily black out drinker. I wasn't always either. Yet, I thought you did mention that this summer you did have an episode like this. I'm sure you already know that the possibility holds true, that with time the sometimes pleasure from alcohol does diminish for most people.

Now I'm with Lilly & I don't advocate relapsing, yet I'm one of the Queens!... I had this internal battle to. Even coming off bad hangovers, once I'd began to feel better, the cycle repeated. I also was able to moderate, had binge periods. Oh what a love & hate affair I had. No wonder I held on so tightly, for so long. Until it kept royally screwing me over & over. In part, I just kept wanting to only remember the good old days, it also helped me to escape things I was unsatisfied about in my life & painful things too. It wasn't easy to let go. It had been my voice, my friend from yesteryear. I'm also 50 now, I needed to do this. I regret not doing this even 5 yrs ago. I wished I could save somebody else more yrs of harm, but atlas I do understand. I just love it when I do see people getting it in their 40's or younger.

Something new that I'm starting to do is have thinking sessions. Stop & think.... Adding to my visualizations, purposeful thinking!...

It was like K9 said some posts back, the same is for myself, my last slip that turned into a two day relapse. It was the best thing that happened to me. I lost count yrs back which # that was. Yet, I still take it one day at a time.

Even tho right now my Mom is in the hospital, I had a crazy day from hell yesterday & b4. I even had text arguments with my 25 yr old daughter who's flying home this Sat., never mind the rest. I'm suppose to be cleaning my house, instead mostly here on MWO. I'm now going thru the 4 month AF Craving Curse, like in 07-08. This is been going on. I know if I were to drink this time I'd just say screw it & not even bother or try & pretend & modd. I'd just go for the whole shiska bang.

I know this will pass eventually. I'm doing something nice for me & saying feck house cleaning, other crap & doing something for my recovery, b4 I go nuts. Now I feel better. Thank you for letting me share on your wonderful safe thread Tipps. Whether a person is drinking a half a bottle, two bottles, etc, if they are having this fecking crazy merry go round crap in their head, come post here. Maybe this will be the thread they figure it out on.

I do think a key factor has to do with loving yourself enough, acceptance of self & life. That means doing what ever you have to. Stop pouring poison, into your beautiful self. A new view, self perception of your own worth & value. Let others be what there going to be. Controlling what I can & what I can't.

Tips, please don't go anywhere. Even tho I'm in a diff place now. This thread is very much needed imo!!!... No where, from what I can tell does this section say it's for any certain specific goal, or en-titled people.

This is where changes will start happening, when you take action. When you do something different!.. When your desire to be sober becomes stronger, to love yourself, then the desire to drink, to poison yourself.

                        Kradle,

I hope you know I've been with you in spirit, I've read here & my Pm's. My life is sad, a bit unsure, crazy, I hate this 4 month AF Craving curse to, it's my thyroid to, just all of it.

I was P' Od to say the least at what took place with your son, the school, teacher, system. My first thing was I too wanted to be there with you at these discussions. Felt awful for your son, you. Then I realized you are a Tigerass Mom & knew you'd handle it, would be well prepared.

I could tell you many stories of my dealings. I'm sure you could guess to. I let my girls learn lessons, consequences when they were wrong growing up, but if they were wrongly accused or abused look out Wildflower Mama. My girls today are really ~ really sweet, but they don't take Shite, no door mats, except due to some business politics, been then that's being smart.

I'm so glad you jumped right back up the saddle girl!!!..... Damage control done. Thankfully so, as you most certainly needed full sharpness of mind, tongue, control in dealing with these family issues. :l :h

Tipps just quoted this and i just wanted to second it, SL, - i really think this is one healthy way of looking at cutting down and/or abstaining. Sure, it may not work for all, but i suppose i have a concern that the "back to day 1" response whenever someone has a drink/s can, for some, be an ickle bit negative. (having said that i am avidly counting me days AF, but then i am a newbie and am positive i am going through the "honey-moon period" ... when that finishes will be the true test!)

A combination of the naked honest reception of this thread and another thread I started recently in which Kaslo who drank the same amount I do and is a toxologist, gave me the real deal on the health ramifications of our cute little wine habit, has caused me to hit the proverbial wall.

I am done. Drinking that is. I will stick by here closely. I am now a senior member here and would one day hope to be as giving and supportive as K9 and all the others. But for now I will rely on the support of my friends here to get me through each day.

I want to keep bumping up this thread no matter how well I do as I think it will always catch the eye of someone who is shamefacedly lurking after a dissapointing slip-up.
