    Army Thread Tuesday 18th Sept

    Hello Troopers!!

Mrs. A - sorry to hear of your diagnosis but at least you know what you're dealing with. I hope you can keep that BP down so as not to do any more damage to your heart. And that you can get some relief from the sciatica. Maybe acupuncture would help. Did the doctor say anything about you continuing to run seeing as the one ventricle is damaged. Sure hope not. I know how much you love to run. :l

Molly, I would go bonkers in a situation like that. I love children but not keen on when they get rambunctious. I know kids are kids but when the noise level gets too high, I lose patience with them.

Jackie - how did work go?

KTAB, anyone would be tired after moving 4 wheelbarrows of gravel. Just the shoveling is tiring enough.

Foxy, sorry to hear you've caught a cold. Hope it doesn't hit you too hard and you're feeling better soon.

Mama, good to see that you have become a regular poster here.

Hiya Mick. Don't know if we've met yet. :hallo:

Satz, how is the new lappie working? Are you pleased with it so far? I :h mine. Mind you it's a boring silver colour. I would have much preferred some shade of pink or mauve or blue....

Tipster - are you still around? How are things going with your Ma? When do you expect her back?

:wavin: to anyone I might have missed.

We had a short power black out about half an hour ago so if I suddenly disappear, you'll know that it happened again. Damn government cutbacks and unions striking... :stomper:

You did it before and did it very well. I need to lose a few kilos myself. Actually I've lost a couple over the summer but need to lose a few more....

Ah, that's good, KTAB. No point in overdoing it and paying the price the next day. Did I see that you had applied for a new job a while ago? Or has my 60+ brain got you mixed up with someone else? If so, did you ever hear back from them?

Hiya Stirly, yes I did and got a nice personal reply yesterday but they arent pursuing it which is a big disappointment as I really liked the sound of it. Beginning to wonder if my age is starting to become a factor even though I am still in my 40s (just hehehe)

I'm fine thanks, Molly. Got some drawers and such cleaned out today and that feels good. Talked to my sister earlier. A friend of hers, on hearing that she is coming to Greece, expressed the desire to come along with her.I nixed that toot sweet. There are several reasons - our spare bedroom only has a single bed although I do have a cot that I could put up for her. I don't know this woman and I will be stressed out enough the week before the wedding getting last minute things done without feeling like I have to entertain a stranger. And third, my little car is a two-seater and I prefer to drive around in that as opposed to Mr. Stirly's Freelander. My sister said she understood completely and had come up with the same reasons herself but just wanted to run it by me first before she told her friend no. I'm not good at having strangers staying in my home and especially not for three whole weeks. I mean, she's my sister's friend and all but what if, for some reason, she and I didn't get along. Then there would be Mr. Stirly moaning about having to feed this stranger, etc., etc. Not a good idea considering the upcoming wedding.

You're not morphing into your Mammy. We raised our kids differently than most parents do today. On the most part. Sure there are exception. That's why I am so impressed by Oney and her lovely little family. Her kids are lively but they are very polite and well behaved and her and Rob have done a fab job raising them. My sons are defo mens' men and they've had their shares of fights and such and they can swear like nobody's business when they get upset. But they are well-mannered considerate people and I always get compliments from our friends and Mr. Stirly's cousins and relatatives about what great guys they are. And you can see how they respect their girlfriends and their family and friends in general. I really, really dislike rude children who have not been taught proper manners and respect for other people. Okay, down off the :soapbox: :H

God that sounds like a nightmare Stirly, good call on no thanks.

Good manners cost nothing but are worth a lot in my book and children learn what they are taught from a young age.

Age would definitely be a factor here and that is so stupid IMHO. A man or woman in their 40's, whether early or late, is usually a mature person who knows what they want and will work extra hard to prove that they are the right person for the position. Not that younger people don't, but younger people have other things on their agenda and lots of times haven't yet sown their wild oats and haven't really figured out exactly what they want to do. Plus there is the marriage and starting a family and things like that, that older people have already gone through and can concentrate more on the job at hand. I sure hope something comes along soon. Something that you like, that pays well and that is closer to home. Not asking much are we...:H

Well, at least you got an answer. I don't think in an ageist way so much anymore. When I got my job they seemed to have a policy of hiring peeps a wee bit older - so there's a whole shaft of us now in our 50's --- and truly - without any shadow of a doubt we are better employees by a mile. We don't take sick leave willy-nilly - we are more relaxed and sociable with the public (well, except for today:H) and even tho my employer is a not nice organisation - I do know that they know that - so I consider my age a wee bit of an advantage tbh
That's the way it should be. Employers should realize the advantage of hiring older employees and how valuable they are to the work force.

Will you not get a pension, Molly? Here you have to have worked at least 30 to 35 years to get a full pension, depending on the work you do. I am not eligible for a pension because of bad advice given to us by our accountant almost 20 years ago. I'd shoot the fecker if I could do it without going to jail.

Dont know if you saw Stirly but I did take a job at the start of the year, it pays the bills, just, but if far from ideal.

Well Spuds, sorry I missed your earlier post, nice to see you again.

Yep, I squelched the idea right away. I don't need the hassle right now. Or ever, for that matter...

I agree with what you say about good manners. I think it is very important that children are taught to respect others and good manners are a part of that. This may seem weird but I only ever told my kids that I expected three things from them. To be clean, respect others and not get mixed up with drugs. My logic may be off but I figure that if a person practices good personal hygiene, that means they respect their own body. If they are polite, it shows respect to others and if they stay away from drugs, they will not be putting their physical and most importantly, their mental health at risk. Oh, and I did tell them to make sure they always had "raincoats" with them when they were going out with a girl.

The lights have flickered a couple of times so it looks like we may be in for another black out. Gotta go walk the dogger while the street lights are still on. I so do dislike the dark. Hope to be able to post when I get back. If not, sweet dreams to you all.

Where are Pingu and Reccie and anyone else that is MIA?

Dentist appt tomorrow. Wish me luck........
