I'm just undergoing a dose of immense giggles. Someone's cracked the darks with us and downgraded our thread to 4 stars, deeming it terrible. Too bloody funny because I don't give a fat rat's how many stars we've got so I'm going in to vote. Let's see if we can downgrade it to 1 *. Childish? Moi?

At daybreak the fire had burned down to glowing embers, the guards and Randy the dog had kept us safe throughout the night. I reckon they were ready for a bit of sleep…..

After breakfast and packing up it was the men’s turn to have some fun and show their prowess, stamina and hunting skills ….all which goes to impress the young maidens of the village.






Arnie was cheating a bit… you have to keep your legs straight.



Next it was Frank and Mr Rags’ turn. They aren’t good husband material.
However, they were given an age dispensation, and Frank got extra points because of his Santa beard.



You’re never too young to start learning how to become a chick magnet.
In the background the ladies are setting up their benches (cowdung on sticks) to display stuff for sale.
One bench was very fresh and I accidentall scraped my fingers on it.






BTW the women build the huts which are made from cow dung. They have a tiny hole at the top of a wall to let smoke out. They are divided into 2 rooms. One for living cooking, sleeping, and one for the goat, baby calf or chooks. A good hut lasts about ten years and they provide damned good insulation. They are dark inside (obviously) and there is a short entrance hallway which follows the curve of the hut so you don’t walk directly into the living quarters…. African feng shui. Silly me. I didn’t photograph one.

Having thoroughly exhausted the Europeans with jumping and dancing, the hunting skills challenge was on. Frank and Mr Rags both clubbed the cactus and redeemed themselves as husband material.

To become a warrior, as well as undergoing a rather painful circumcision during which you are not allowed to even wince, you have to take part in a lion hunt.
This young man was the first to spear the lion, so his trophy was the mane.








This chap was extremely proud of his earlobe. Again it is a manhood thing.



While all this was going on, Chris was checking his cattle and arranging which ones were to be sent to market. He is a rich man in the village and has a wooden house with a tin roof.


It was time to go but not before Frank’s beard got the big inspection.
