With the death of former U.S. Senator George McGovern yesterday, I was reminded of a book he wrote about alcoholism that moved me very much. His daughter, Teresa, fought a terrible drinking problem her whole life and ended up dying in a snowbank (in the city I live in, only a mile or so away) in 1994. "Terry: My Daughter's Life and Death Struggle with Alcoholism" is a troubling and moving book that I highly recommend.

thanks for the recommendation. sounds liek a rough read, but well worth it. i have always admired mc govern, as a fellow south dakotan and an anti-war activist.
