      Keeping it positive :-)

I think having a positive thread is a great idea, because it can be a very powerful too...but this is different then making a rule or discouraging people from expressing their feelings..I believe that inferring that people shouldn't express themselves from where they are would be very dangerous for someone who has never shared a feeling like that. A lot of people come here from a very dark place and take huge risk by even logging on. In order to heal some negative thinking, one must admit it's there..they may need to put it out there first...then we always have a chance to receive their pain, and to help them lovingly out of that place...one person at a time...because we know and love Lush, we know what she is proposing, but there are many that don't. Some could take too much encouragement to use 'positive thinking' as a way to avoid dealing with some real pain and self destructive thinking..I think the last thing that someone who is in a great deal of pain wants to hear is to think 'positive'..it's a little more complicated than that...So, if there is a vote, I vote for a positive thread be created so those who are practicing 'positive thinking' can go and share and support each other.

Even though I am not supposed to be talking anymore , I see your point Dilayne and agree. Do not want to scare anyone off. I have been at the lowest of lows and did not want someone to tell me "this too shall pass" or "think positive." I really intended this for people who are "sort of" where they want to be but not quite there and then allow their defeat to take over. That's all. And honestly it was meant to be more of a lighthearted thread, not one to cause controversy. As I told someone else earlier when PMS hits me in a couple of days and I am negative you can throw this whole thread back in my face!

I think that Lusch's point is a good one. I think we really do have to focus on our victories and our strives forward. It's so easy to get discouraged and use this as an "excuse" to drink. Sorry, but as drinkers, (and I am also slotting myself into this category) we tend to be pessimistic, negative and depressed. And what does that lead to? Hmmm....drinking? Yup.
Not that anyone is discouraged or stopped from talking about their sad or depressed emotions...God help us...that is 75% of our battle isnt it? I think Lusch was saying - "let's not forget the good stuff guys!"
Thanks Luschy Lusch for bringing me back to higher ground here.
This reminds me. Before I came here, I drank every night more or less without fail, woke up hung over at least 5 times a week or so, and felt shitty all the time.
Now, I can usually go AF most weeknight or all.
I can also have an AF weekend if I want to (NEVER could have happened before). Yes, I have my struggles but there is more of a sense of "control" now that I never understood before. Gosh, I can go and buy a :"cleansing" kit now - that requries that you abstain for 7 days - and actually abide by that!! - never could have done that before!!
Thanks Lusch for reminding us to stay positive. It's easy to forget.
You are a great gal and I love you to pieces.
            Jen.

Well you know Fan, I am a woman after all.......

And yes, Jen you said it better than I said it. I meant to say "Let's not forget about the good stuff guys." That is EXACTLY what I meant.

And LOL about the cleansing kit. SO true..............

The struggles make us stronger and we always need to stay positive on a daily basis if possible so those stuggles don't overcome us...wise idea Lush. Thanks for the reminder. I need a kick in the butt at times.

                      Yes THANK YOU Lusch.
                      Everyone's input is welcome here.
I think we should all try to live by a mantra which- while it IS used in AA - is still a useful one -
                      "live and let live"
Why? Because everyone's struggle is their own. Everyone's journey is their own. Everyone's point of view is sacred and everyone's voice needs to be heard.
If I were to sense that any topic/person were to be silenced, I would leave these boards. Enough is enough. I love you all, but enough.
                      Thanks

In fact, why WOULD we attack one of our most cherished members for trying to get us to think positive? (Not that everyone is "attacking her" but there has been some "opposition here"...)
                        Baffling.
You guys know I try to stay out of this stuff but I am really baffled this time.
                        Truly.

Umm, Jen, can you put a more positive spin on that please?

Yes, you are right though and I think Rocky said it earlier, all viewpoints are/should be welcome, and now that I have worked all day and I am tired I ain't as positive as I was this morning.....

Lush, I know exactly where you're coming from.

I am going to start a journal with poitive affirmations, including all the negative effects that alcohol has on my life, along with all the positives I will/am starting to get from moderating my drinking.

Reading about others' bad days is a constant reminder to me (when I'm having a good day) about how quickly it can turn around.

I know where you're coming from. Good stuff Lush!
