    UNDEROOS - Support Movember

Morning all, didn't want to start a new thread until we'd all read Techie's post.

So here's to Movember. Movember Australia - About Movember

    Hi Tawny,
This is the email I received yesterday from my mates Marilyn and Frank.
I've just got off the phone from them....
I asked about insurance and she said that the cost would send insurance companies bankrupt. No-one knows quite what is happening there yet.

She did say this might tip the scales for the election.

I asked about the fire in Queens and she said 15 houses lost but firemen couldn't get to it as the bridge was washed out (Daneens' husband Allen is a fireman).

This is the email.... and they got off lightly.

Called Daneen in NY Monday night before the rain started, however the water surge had begun (they are not very near water) and their basement windows looked like fishbowls and water was seeping into the basement. They were starting to get the furniture off the floor. I said I wished I could do something to help and she said "PRAY!!! Just PRAY!!!" Yesterday morning Daneen in Queens, NYC has no power and three feet of water in their basement -- her husband's 92 year old mother lives across the street and the same story there so they have two houses to deal with. Then, through the day yesterday we learned (mostly through text messages as nothing else seemed to work) that during the storm the basement windows had so much water pressure on them they blew into the basement, allowing the water to enter, filling the basement.
Daneen told me that when you opened the side door which looks into the basement all you saw was water and the big double door refrigerator floating past. What a mess. Daneen & Alan had a totally finished basement with custom built-ins, full kitchen with cabinetry only a few years old. But everyone is safe. It's only stuff.

We are waiting a call or message from Daneen advising if they need us to get there asap to help, bring our generator/water/whatever. So we are packing and finding out how to Absentee Vote today so we are ready to leave on a few hours notice

I told her my kids did a meditation for all the people affected by the floods... She said she'd pass that on.

There's no bottled water, no batteries to be had as people rushed supermarkets, and they are without power. Can't get hold of a generator o can't start pumping out the water....

It's going to be a solemn Christmas for some families.

        HI TF,

        Happy belated Halloween.

Techie, thinking of you and your family.

        It's a new month everyone and I'm excited. It's all a blessing.
Rags, I think I said it before but, once you get a kindle and start using it, you tend to miss the feel of books less. I was the same. I loved my books, but now I love my kindle. I still buy books from time to time.

TF, any news on your friend?

We're off for a playdate and a car service. I start my new job in 10 days. Can't help but feel sad to be leaving little Leon at home without me. Wish money wasn't a necessity.
        Catch you soon!

Geez, what can we do to help the people over there? Is there a donation website?

            Hi Techie,
Daneen and Allen live in Queens. I cant remember the street though. They are very lucky.

I would imagine one will get set up here fairly soon.

                  Tawny,
If Mr Rags grew a moustache these days, it would be all grey and streaky.
But he does have prostate checks. At least he tells me he does. Some non invasive procedure.

Techie - thinking of you and your family :l What an enormous amount of "stuff" you have had to deal with over recent years. The video clip of Marie Loprestie made me cry.

Mr G - glad you are enjoying your training. I'm talking to trade union reps on this trip and it's really interesting. Must tell you all about it some time!

Sunny - I love the fact that you are always so positive!

I'm having a big adventure today having arrived in Kiribati. Taken lots of photos already, but meetings have started and will go on all afternoon. And internet speeds are painfully slow. Here's the best one from Solomons though ...
