    UNDEROOS - Support Movember

    Morning Bridge!

As much as I'm enjoying my island paradise, I have red and blotchy legs from al the mosquito bites, despite lathering myself with 90% DEET (and they have dengue fever and high rates of malaria here), and I think I would get pretty sick of eating fish and rice every day.

Yesterday, the little group of houses just by where I am staying spent the entire afternoon singing and dancing. It was unbelievably fantastic. So I'm going to go to mass this morning to see if I can get some more of that!!

    Reg, you've been deleting again:H

          Morning all,

Geez Techie, i hope your mum's gonna be okay. Losing her cats AND those letters is rough. Take care of yourself there too buddy. Thoughts are with you.

Hi Missy, thanks for the pics. Who's the chick on the right in the blue top in 1st pic? You're not coming back are you.....

Congrats to high school locust grad Saucy!

Hiya Sunny/Leon! Good on you pursuing your maternity leave rights. Those laws were worked hard for by many mums (and dads) for good reason. Some people are just a bit too 'me' focused and don't consider others.

Hope the move's stress free as possible Noicey! Hiring a truck meself for tomorrow.

Morning punters and movers and shakers and our lovely international guests,

Missy - I find it hard to understand that they aren't growing more food. Seeing those pics I expect fantastic tropical fruits and lush veggies ... Are you getting any swimming in?

Gorgi day here in the Central Highlands and the roses are magnificent.

Happy, I wish my hair looked like that too :H

Tawny, despite how beautiful it looks, the lagoon is highly contaminated and not fit for swimming in (even the locals don't). And it is actually a series of atolls, rather than an island ... so doesn't have "soil" as such. The only plants are those that grow in sand. And there are very few birds too. I read somewhere that it is the poorest of the Pacific nations and has a population density that is about the same as Hong Kong.

Like most of the Pacific it was raped and pillaged during the colonial area, so all its natural resources (mainly phosphate) have been stripped out. And the French did nuclear testing here in the 1950s. And the highest point is 1-2 m above sea level, so now (as Rags alluded to the other day), with climate change, there is a risk of the country being completely submerged within the next 40-50 years (although there is some new science called the reef adaptation project which has provided new hope for continuance).

Anyway, I still love it! It feels like it still has a strong sense of community, is very cohesive and despite being poor, there isn't the sense of deprivation that I saw in Solomon Islands.

off to take some more photos!

                              .
Mr Rags has just this minute finished boarding up the air return for the gas heating and vacuumed shitloads of rat shit from the ducting. He's disconnected the leccy to it and turned the gas off. He now has to figure how to block the outlets in the rooms. We're going to set traps to try to clear the rats out.
I wonder if we could entice the diamond python to take up full time residency in the ducting... we could keep it warm by turning on the heating...
We're also trying to work out how to clean the ducting as it absolutely stinks of ratshit and urine ... which is why we've blocked it off. . If we can't fix it we'll dismantle the ducting and take it to the tip. Such a bloody waste. But we've never used it as every time we've turned it on the house filled with the most awful smell and we've had to open all the doors and windows to get fresh cold air in... rather self defeating......

It is time I gave the house a good clean and got mr Electro dry in again. Maybe I should get the carpet dyed. Perhaps a nice foodstain pattern.
