One Step at a Time - November 2012

    hi Mick,

I'm doing quite well, thanks for asking. We had a lovely trip. London is a fantastic city, especially nice since they spiffed it up for the Olympics. The weather was nippy but sunny except for one day of torrential rain and wind. A very nice time was had by all. It was great to actually be "with" the family instead of spending all my time thinking about drinking. I didn't drink at all. I did sigh a tiny sigh when I was offered a sparkling wine on the plane but then thought about what that small glass of wine could lead to. A cold tonic and lime instead did the trick quite nicely.

I'm on Day 85 today. I feel as though the tough part is over and now I'm living an AF life. I'm ready for the trials of the holidays.

How were your travels? Your photos are fantastic. I still need to figure out how to post photos as Christmas time is coming and I want to be ready for the photo project. What is photo bucket that everyone talks about? We missed you starting the daily thread. It's good to have you back.

Thanks again for checking in on me. I don't make much noise and there is not much drama in my life. It's nice to know I'm noticed around here.

Nurdl - you are very important around here. :l Sounds like a wonderful trip that you had.

      Hi Mick!!!

Paula - so sorry about your back. :l

Zen - you mean back from my vacation? Oh yes - I was only gone a week. Not long enough for sure.

Ok - back to work for me. :upset:

          Hi friends,
Paula, I hope the cortisone helps you. It only offers temporary relief, as you probably know, but if you can make your lower back stronger while you have less pain, that can make a longer term difference.

Mama, I am sorry you also have GERD. the frustrating piece is that while I can make my symptoms worse by eating poorly, I can also get worse while I am eating perfectly. I've been doing pretty well on the h2 blocker zantec for several months, but it seemed to stop working a few days ago. I've started taking a bone-weakening ppi again, but will try to get back off it in a couple of weeks. Ugh! I hope yours is easier to control than mine. I post regularly on the Healing Well forum.

Nurdle, what was your rehearsal? I sing in a couple of groups: church choir, and a college-based group that performs classical works. We just performed the Brahams Requiem a couple of weeks ago.

Sunbeam - I'm a musician, guilty as charged. My instrument is piano. I'm classically trained, have both a teaching degree and a performance degree. My love is working with singers. I also do some vocal directing in community theater. I just adore working with regular folks who work all day and then come out at night to work their tails off singing acting and dancing just for the fun of it. The rehearsal I was talking about is a concert band that I've been encouraged to join as most of my instrumental peeps play in it. I'm sort of an honorary band person and I'm trying to learn how to bang about things in the percussion section. It's harder than it looks so I had a frustrating night on Monday. My jingle bells were behind tempo - the horror!

Love the Brahms Requiem. I trained at Westminster Choir College in NJ. We were the resident non-professional choir with the NY Philharmonic for many years. The first time I saw Carnegie Hall was from the stage. Go figure.

Where are you located Sunbeam? We Westminster people get around, it's very possible I would know your director or rehearsal accompanist.

Juja: amazing how much we depend on technology these days. The terrorists don't need to kill people anymore, they just have to cripple our satellite system.

One Step at a Time - November 2012

Hello folks! While I'm at work, I think of all these things to post about but then I get home & just crash. I started trying to look up Flow and Fairway Solitaire. Sun, is it Flow Free? I wasn't able to find the solitaire game for my kindle yet but I have not given up.

I think it's so interesting that we have 2 musicians here. That is so neat. I took piano lessons when I was younger. We just gave my piano to my my niece.

Yahoo - Juja is back! It's about time, I must say. :H

Well - off to pay some bills. Yuck! Might be back later. :wavin:

                          Hi Nora,
Yes, it is Flow Free I am playing. I also could find the Fariway Solitare on my Kindle apps, nor the word game (Five words?).

I wouldn't call myself a musician, just a volunteer singer.

                              I am a trained classical singer!! I swear...no joke.
I have sung with the Symphony Orchestra in both Columbus,Ohio and Jacksonville, Fl. Not as a soloist, mind you.
                              I sang with a 5 peice band for years...weddings, parties,etc!!
That's so cool!!! And an excellent accompianist is critical. I miss my music....I started having babies and building my career and my music kind of slipped away.
I have also played the lead in many, many community musicals.
                              WOW!!!!!!
Zenny- Bret just bought a Butterball Turkey Fryer on Amazon for $140 (i think)...it is the best we have owned as it has a lid, and it can be drained, as opposed to dumped all over the counter.
Yay..juja and nurdl and everyone is back!!
Paula, I just put a vibrating chair pad on my office chair, and I can't get everybody off of it!
My aches and pains haunt me now....years of playing soccer and running track......
                              ok....back to work
                              love you all
Nora..how is Scott?? And we need a Hamish update, as well.
