Is it cold and rainy, Paula? I'd love to be experiencing lousy weather in the UK. I'm an anglophile at heart.:l

        X-post, Mama.

Thanks for the welcome back.:l A bit of exercise is my goal today, too. A mile walk, at least. I just remembered it's hunting season. I may have to re-think that, or wear blaze orange....

And, Nora, just think: you're getting the good/bad family times out of the way before the holidays even begin. You're ahead of the game.:H

my boys like Christmas at home.....but for the past two or three years we have gone to Nana's for my SIL;s DOG.....she doesn't like our cat.....
so this year, my youngest, Clay, asked to have it at our house again. My SIL rolled her eyes and said" Dolly isn;t going to be with us much longer and I really want her to spend the day with us"
HELLOO........does the dog know it's Christmas??? She stays home alone every day while SIL goes to work...just sayin!
I understand loving your pets...I have had many over the years.....but our Christmas this year has been decided by a daschund........pppffffffftyttttt!

              Good morning,

Juja: so good to see your bubblegum face! Sometimes I need a break from stressful situations too, but you were dearly missed when you were gone. You are feeling better physically too, I hope!

Hi, Nora up in Oregon; hope you are having more good family time than bad....you were so looking forward to this so enjoy the good part, at least.

Good to see you, mama bear and Paula and alls well and others yet to come...

Gotta jump into the shower and get out of bed. So hard to do these days!

One Step at a Time - November 2012

Morning from Oregon!!! We had our fire last night. But, we're going to have to go buy wood. Can't believe that Dad didn't do this before I got here. Their woodpile is such old wood that it's just wormy and no good. I told him that the last time I was here. Just wouldn't listen to me. :H

Juja - I had decided that it was time for you to come back & look you're back. :H Seriously, you were missed. :l

We've got cold & rainy here too, Paula. I probably wouldn't like it if I lived in it all the time though.

And I certainly haven't thought about Christmas yet. Oh my goodness. (I don't think a dog should get a vote on where you go though).

I am taking the good and leaving behind the bad. Thank you for that Ally. I am having a wonderful time. Just so great to be with them. My brother lives a couple miles away so I'll just see him a few times. I think that this sarcasm is so much a part of his personality that he doesn't even know he does it. I'll just come here & get it off my chest.

Going to go see what to fix for breakfast. I'll be back!!!

Hiya Kneesrbad! Good to see you posting on the thread... call back in again! I quit smoking mid-March... very tough to begin with but I hardly give ciggies a thought now. Occasional cravings but that's it. :welcome:

Welcome back Juja!!! What Mama said... don't let them rile you... :l Gawd knows, I do! And it’s not worth it! I hope the bronchitis improves... they gave you a Z Pack last week didn't they… that didn't knock it out? (Be careful if you go on that walk today! lol)

Glad you made it in one piece Nora! I've never got any further up the west coast than Fort Bragg but I've seen pix of Oregon and it looks beautiful. Did you bring a camera? If you like you can always use the Army vernacular and tell yer brother to "feck off"! :H (If you do that... let us know how it goes! hee hee) :l

Mama... I'd insist on Christmas at your own house. Fair is fair and it's your turn, right?! The doggy doesn't even have to come, if the trauma of your cat is too much for him/her... Family politics, eh?

Yooo Hoooo to the rest of the Steppers! *waves*

On the subject of holliers… After much ado about Thanksgiving it looks like it’s going to be Chez Zens. My mate has a smoker and he’s going to smoke the turkey the day before and bring it over to get finished off in the oven. I’ve never made a smoked turkey before… anyone got any input on it? I wonder can I can still stuff it? Anyway, not sure how many people yet… 6-8ish. Holidays are always tough for me as all my family are across the pond, so I’m glad to be able to host Thanksgiving this year! ) We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK (obviously)... Christmas is our big holiday over there... followed by New Years.

Hope everyone's having a good Monday.

Zen: no, never heard of a smoked turkey.... Sounds like some kind new drug that I'm not familiar w, not that I'm familiar w any drugs other than alcohol...

Nora: if it's just your brother, count yourself as lucky. My immediate family of 5 is so divided that we live in 2 different continents and still can't get along. We prefer to fight using the email system these days and it's definitely quieter shouting over the web.

Paula, Juja, and mama: I always get uncomfortable w those who plan for Christmas so early. How do you know if between the time you buy the gift for person A until Christmas, that he/she didn't already get it? That's why my husband is smart: he does last minute mad dash Walmart shopping, I mean, on Dec 24, so you know that for sure if whoever you're buying for don't have it by dec 24, they prob won't have it on dec 25.

                        Cheers without alcohol!

Nope...the dog and the SIL rule in our family.......I just dropped it as I don't want to hear the snide comments...and as Bret pointed out on the ride home, his Dad is getting weaker and more"vacant" with the Parkison's and the meds, so it's prolly better to stay close to home.....clean clothes, etc.
The extra bonus is that I don't have to have spotless house!!!!!!!!!!!
I dunno if you can stuff a smoked turkey.....we are buying a Butterball Turkey Fryer this week.....we like ours fried....yummy, cripsy crust.
Nora.....isn't your dad like 150 or something?????:H Your brother should be looking after their wood, IMO.
I would love to see pictures of that part of the country.

I HATE last minute shopping for Crimbo. It makes me nervous. There's junk left and weirdos out......no reflection on your hubs, Ally!!
I LOVE shopping on line...so easy. Now we just give Grant and Clay cash (that I hide all over the house) and they are thrilled.

Mama, what exactly is "Crimbo"? Is it like Crisco? Is it something a squirrel would enjoy?

One Step at a Time - November 2012

I am back from the frozen tundra. Sat all day in that concealed carry class, which is torture for me. I can't tolerate that sort of inactivity. The weather was so horrible, I couldn't return home to the big city, so I had to go back to Tick Hollow. The rain was turning to snow, I had to fumble with the cow gate lock in pitch blackness, I had to aim the headlights at the front door so I could find it, I tracked mud into the shack, threw my boots out onto the porch and they froze to the floor.

This morning, I grunted all my stuff out to the car, fixed the woodpile tarp, winterized the shack and repaired yet another woodpecker hole. The little bugger likes to tap on the wall in the bedroom, so I smack the wall to frighten him off. Don't even have to get out of bed!
