      Good article to link NoSugar.

I am aware of those points. It is an article I will want in front of me to remind me of the evils of too much sugar.

The first week is the hardest and it is too easy to turn to sugar as a comfort when we first go AF too.

I know I am craving the comfort massively after a terrible relapse on AL and RD at the weekend.

True happiness can be found if you do not let the highs and lows be MASSIVE and SUDDEN.

        Hi, Londoner

Glad to see you back. You know more about yourself now than you did a week ago and can use that information. You posted here about eating more junk food the week before. Next time you see that pattern developing, you'll know to look out.

I think those of us who experience sugar intake as leading to AL intake are in the minority here. Byrdie even put it up in a survey for me one time when I was trying to find out if I was the only one with this reaction. Many people find that one can replace the other and they can capitalize on that to get sober. So, like I told Dottie Bell above, I think in the short-term, sugar can be a tool for that group. I hope they all back off on it or, better yet, eliminate it, after they are fully and comfortably AF. I guess the trick for everyone is figuring out which group they belong to.

Hope you don't mind if I get on your back a bit if in the future you post things in this thread like you did last week.

I watched Dr. Oz yesterday. He had a segment on dried white mulberries. They are suppose to block sugar from being absorbed into the blood stream. They are low in sugar and high in fiber and protein. The tea is great for the same thing. I am goingvto check it out. Especially the tea.
No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

Ok, Day 1 of no desserts, cookies, ice cream for me. Off to an early dinner (sans dessert). Goal for today -- make it to the gym an hour after dinner.

NS - Yes, definitely. That sounds good to me

I have realised how important this site is going to be in my recovery from binge drinking (which leads to what I describe as partying at places I would never go when sober) and from my sugar addiction. It must all be related into dopamine.

After about 35-40 days of AF and SF I really feel like a happy go lucky person. It's getting back to that.

HI LB - just googled this as well. Sounds like it's worth a try! They also have mulberry in some trail mix. See if this link takes you there.

Navitas Naturals Organic Trail Mix (Goji-Mulberry-Goldenberry), 8-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 2): Amazon.com: Grocery & Gourmet Food

I'm going to check out our local health food stores to see if I can find the tea and this mix or something similar. I'm sure it's flying off the shelves today. All it takes is Doc Oz to endorse something! Thanks for this tip. :thanks:

Happy to report that three times I went to the buffet (in the hotel EXEC lounge) -- salad, dinner, cheese and fruit-- and three times I resisted the yummy looking sweets. Packed up the remaining oreos and chocolates and will take them into the office for others tomorrow. Feeling so smug and virtuous I can hardly stand myself. Day 1 of the Oct SF challenge almost over for me.

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

L-tyrosine has helped me in the past with sugar cravings. Only at the beginning as I find tolerance builds fairly quickly to this amino acid.

Other things that really help me kick the sugar habit are:

                        1) Exercise. A combo of weights and various forms cardio (luckily this is my job, so it's not hard for me to do)

                        2) Starting the day right. If I have refined carbs/sugar early in the day then the rest of my day is messed up. I can tell you that for a fact.

                        3) Sleep pattern. This is an overlooked area, but a big change happened to me when I sorted this out. A regular sleep pattern of 11pm-6am and waking with simulated daylight really helps in the Winter months. Funnily enough as I strayed from the sleeping pattern various areas of my life began to degrade again.

                        4) Plenty of water.

                        5) Working towards a goal all of the time. When I am doing nothing or spinning my wheels I turn to short term highs - such as sugar and alcohol. So stay productive.

I must admit today has been a bad day. White bread, a couple of biscuits, raisins and another sweet dessert. This is because my brain is so depleted from any dopamine from my weekends antics (AL and RD's) it needs to feel something.

This week I am going to take up a combat sport and get back on promoting my business. How the hell can I work in the fitness industry and lead a life like this.....I can't is the answer. AL and Sugar addiction grip me and stop me from progressing in my work life - maybe because deep down I feel like I am cheating my customers.

MRose - Thanks for your tips on sugar avoidance. Good stuff! Any chance you could give all of us a sample menu of what you eat in a typical day please? I think it would help me tremendously to have a roadmap of sorts to follow. Thanks!

Gosh, Allan, if you started a SF rollcall then I would HAVE to be accountable--probably a good idea. Day 2 for me, over. Resisted the dessert buffet that I had to walk past three times again tonight.

Think the sugar problem is bigger than we know.
