Re: The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??
Day 5 with no sugar down and dusted. I did eat a few french fries while waiting for a show because I was very hungry and my friend ordered them. Not perfect but better...
Thanks for the 4-1-1, NoSugar (that probably dates me...)

Personally, I have no problem with a couple french fries if it stops there. Or even 1 cookie. That is a LOW DOSE of carbs or sugar. The problems come when, like with alcohol, any intake leads to a binge of sweet/carby foods.
I'm glad you're still feeling good, Ginger999!

Re: The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??
So, did you try the pancakes, satz123?
Here's another easy breakfast:
1/4 cup natural peanut butter (or other nut butter)
1 tablespoon soft butter.
Stir together (may need to soften by ~ 15 sec in the microwave).
Stir in 1 egg to combine well.
Stir in 1 teaspoon baking powder.
Put mixture in a coffee mug (on the large size - e.g. 10-12 oz)
Microwave 1 min.
This comes out as a puffy muffin.
You can add as per your dietary goals: sweetener, dark chocolate chips, dried fruit, etc.
I just eat it with butter.

Re: The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??
Didn't make pancakes yet NS.
Thought I had almond flour - but no - had dumped it :egad:
Bought organic coconut flour today - so may use that.
Any recipes for using it NS? Maybe to make bars - save me buying protein bars - my downfall now really.

I love coconut flour Satz,I make some high protein cookies with it that are flaky and yum,it has a different consistency than regular flour so you might hafta play with it a bit to find the right moisture ratioI have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:
I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

Re: The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??
I agree on the coconut flour, paulywogg. It is dense! I sometimes use Bob's Red Mill Paleo flour which isn't superlow in carbs but is better than regular flour (and is really delicious).
It would be hard to substitute for eggs, Ginger999. I was wondering why it is vegan philosophy not to consume or use animal products that don't involve killing an animal. I understand not wearing leather or eating meat but am interested in the prohibition on e.g. eggs, milk, and wool.

One for Ginger999
A mashed potato substitute:
Steam the good parts of a cauliflower, a peeled and cut into chunks medium/large parsnip, a peeled and sliced yellow onion.
Once soft, puree in a food processor or mix with a mixer.
Ginger can stir in some coconut cream and olive oil to improve the consistency, I think, but I must admit I use butter and cream.
Salt and pepper to taste.

Re: The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??
Hi NS, Both the egg and milk industries involve much cruelty and killing. We just don't hear much about it.
Here's why for eggs:

Here's why for milk:

Not sure about the wool industry. I don't wear wool so I've never looked into it.
Thanks for the recipe! Sounds delicious.
