The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

WOW! I went to the cinema last night and roped myself into a 4 scoop Ben & Jerry's. They had all these new flavours, and I caved in and indulged.

It's funny - half way through the tub I had an epiphany. One that will help me on the AF front too.

I thought - 'Why am I eating this? I know I'm gonna feel worse off later, and it is not REALLY making me happy'.

Reducing sugar and cutting out AF and any party drugs have made me concentrate on the moment. Not on the past. Not on the future. But this moment now. It is definitely helping my motivation, self confidence and relationships.

Make this moment as good as I can, just on the air that I breathe, the food mother nature has provided and the energy from the cosmos.

Long term happiness - not this short term crap.

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

So Londoner, I read your post yesterday and thought, yeah, that makes so much sense!
But today I had to go out and prove it to myself. So I really messed up my goal with a bunch of super sweet chocolate-- and I don't feel better for it, let me tell you.

I talked to my girls ( 8 and 11) about what I was doing-- eating less (no) sugar when they came from their dads house on Sunday. The older one, who also has a super sweet tooth said, "Oh mama that's not going to be very much fun!". But this week I started packing some dried fruits and nuts in the lunchbox-- and today she came home and said, "Mama, I didn't eat any sugar today! We got some chocolate at school and I gave it away." She said she was proud of herself for proving she could do it-- and she wants to try to be sugar free at least a couple days a week-- which makes me so happy. I always thought that at this point it has to be her decision-- I can only support her by making sure what she eats at home is healthy, that she has the options to make good choices, that she has healthy snacks for on the road, and by my actions.

I'm back on it tomorrow--100%. see you all soon!

That's great to hear that your daughter did that. Sounds very mature. Great for both you and her.

I personally ate a lot of honey, peanut butter, raisins and a chocolate desert yesterday. Want happy at all for some reason, and that was emotional eating as a result.

Had some mad dreams in bed and woke up feeling pretty unrefreshed.

          Back to normal today.

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

So I've proven that for myself, sugar is basically the same as alcohol. Look, I haven't posted for here for a long time, I disappeared. and WHY? Because I've completely fallen off the sugar free wagon and am struggling to hop back on. Doing the same thing I have done in the past when I've DECIDED to drink again. So I think I need a plan, because I don't like feeling out of control. And I really don't feel well when I OD on sugar. And I can't seem to just have a little-- it's all or nothing with me with AL and sugar. Damn!! I need/want to read more about addiction. I want to go SF again-- and I keep saying tomorrow, tomorrow, when I don't have so much work, etc, etc.

So I will start today. It's 810 in the morning here and I'm on my way to work. I've been eating chocolate every day at about 2pm because it seems to help me get through the last couple hours. But of course it doesn't help at all! So today I will eat fruit instead-- or dried fruit-- Just have to keep it mind!

                you're SO awesome, NS!!!
Thank you for that list! I would love to start reading now, But I'm so tired, the screen is blurry
And my brain has shrunk to the size of one of the peanuts in those mnm's I'm not eating any more, so I'm lacking comprehension skills-- with those little things, it's the colour that freaks me out as much as the sugar.
                see you tomorrow--

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

LC!! We must be connected! I've had these exact same problems. You keep telling yourself "Tomorrow". But tomorrow comes and goes, and we are still eating too much sugar.

I think it needs to be out of the house completely. Or away from the work place. If it is there it will be eaten. I really think sugar has a deep impact that we are not aware of. Our IQ, comprehension, mood, sanity, connectedness to the world and people, energy etc. etc.

I really fell off the wagon this week - sugar in tea and coffee, loads of home made cake, cookies, dried fruits, sugar on cereal (I never eat cereal!).

I took some L-Tyrosine today, and that seems to kick start me on a no-sugar stint.

Basically it is all neural pathways. Dopamine related addiction.

Let's get back on this AF and SF stint!

Damn, the last couple days I messed up... ate gluten AND sugar in copious amounts. Not gonna lie, it was quite enjoyable... but much less so, all the cravings that it brought back. After living healthy for 50 or so days, I REALLY felt the sugar craving return after having some. OK well back on the health wagon...

                      Hi Skullbaby! Hi Londoner!
I hear you both loud and clear-- I'm feeling very happy that I've reached 30 days AF! Today, actually--, but I'm frustrated that I haven't been kicking the sugar thing. I don't feel well physically and the psychological part is doing a job on me, too. So it's 2am, which is the middle of the night for me! and I want to take this challenge more seriously this month. AN October Sugar Free challenge! I will check in here each day beginning today, I know it's a day early, but I want to start again now-- and until Thursday I 'll be out of town without a computer so I will check in again when I'm home. I will make the commitment to myself. The first days it's the remembering bit that's so difficult!, "WWAIT!", I don't eat sugar any more---

I would love to dump the sugar too. Kind of goes hand in hand with AL. Just sugar in another form. Need to give away the Halloween candy.

                          hey Dottie,
I'm so lucky we don't pass out candy here for Halloween-- I'd be a dead duck! Well, I'd be buying it more than twice, that's for sure. I can't believe how early the candy goes out for sale in the stores-- it's more than a month away!

Lifechange thanks for recommending this thread to me.

I have decided to have my last sugar binge today (last day of September). I bought all my favourites... Tomorrow I give up sugar for good.

First I was toying with an idea of having a guilt free day once a month, however, I thought I could not moderate AL so I will abstain from sugar too...
