The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Are you still standing Allan? :H. That was quite a day you had planned!

This morning I did 2 rounds x 45 seconds with 15 second rests of this: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/0...-workout/?_r=0

and plan to do some hiking later. Let us know how you were doing at the end of your exercise challenge, ok?

If you want to be able to adjust the intervals, you have to buy the app but I think it is worth it. I love having a good workout available even when traveling.

Since we use screennames anyway, you can be Bradley :H!

Hello to all you great SF challengers!

Anyway, my suggestion is that posting on the roll call means a successful day given the poster's definition of SF. For example, I would consider a day on which I ate a small piece of dark chocolate or perhaps a fig to be an SF day for me. It would not be one if I ate a bowl of ice cream or a plate of pasta because for my blood sugar, they have the same effect.
I completely agree with this, Nosugar-- Like you said, AF is AF, but sugar free is a different story and we have different, personal goals. I think I already said mine-- so I won't bore you all with a repeat!

Today was a CHALLENGE! Stress makes me want to eat sweets-specifically chocolate. But I didn't. And I guess that's what is most important to me and what I have to figure out. I don't want to "emotionally" eat or drink anything. I want to be able to deal differently. Today I sat quietly, which helped, and bit the inside of my mouth to keep from yelling at my over controlling co-worker. Helped as well!

Londoner, glad to see you here! Way to go on stopping yourself and turning the situation around. You kicked that one, you did..

AllanK, (if you're still alive!)-- I would love to post about exercise here, too. We (you:H) could start another thread, I guess. But as far as I am concerned, here is also great. I will be able to post tomorrow about my workout!-- one thing at a time. But you are so right that they all go together. Tomorrow after work I will go to the gym.

Free, In my opinion, you have the greatest challenge of all-- travelling between different time zones, spending so much time on the road, dealing with exhaustion, --I'm impressed with how you do it. All my extra positive vibes are being sent your way!

          Hi to Skull!

            Hi Allan (Bradley)
Londoner started a great thread -- "Ask the Trainer" in the exercise section. In that thread I committed to doing his suggested exercise plan 3x this week. Right now, I don't have access to a gym but will later this week. I think the high intensity/short duration will be a killer.

When I am not traveling, I used to go to the gym and watch BLoser on the treadmill while I walked. Trouble was I also tended to eat ice cream after I was finished with my workout. On day 7 of no sugar (by my definition) and feeling much better.

Are you alive after your 3000 calorie day?

Lifechange, I am also an emotional eater. That is why I wanted to find a substitute for Sugar. Like Byrdie said when you are hungry, thirsty, tired, bored, lonely... you crave a release. That used to be alcohol then sugar and now what? It is easy to say get high on life but what do you do when you are really down?

, I have been moving since 12 o'clock. It is now 8pm and I have only burned 2100. It is tough. Think how easy it is to consume 3000 calories. It is a cheese cake and a pizza. Which I can consume in half hour. But it will probably take me until midnight to burn an equal amount (12hours total) IT will definitely make me think twice next time I am tempted.

BTW have you heard of "Insanity workout" it is the best fat burning tool out there. If you are tough enough

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

AllanK, now I understand-- Great idea to try and burn off the number of calories in a favourite "binge" meal. I'm going to try that on Sat. (if I don't forget by then!). For me. that will be 300g of peanut mnm's-- yuck-- but it is what I was eating (at least) up until yesterday. As far as a substitute, I still don't know. The only thing that ever really helped me was when I was very disciplined with daily meditation. I've been trying to get back to it, but haven't been consistent. One of my goals for the near future.

                Free, thanks for the tip..
and Londoner, great thread! I'm thinking up my questions...

1500 CALORIES!! oh my goodness-- actually I never look at calories or fat!
and 80 grams of fat. I have my work cut out for me on Sat. -- I'm mostly concerned with the emotional/addictive part of eating the junk-- but damn!

Would the 8K run and 1 hour circuit (weights, right?) in the gym be about 1500?

10 hours, 3000 calories, about one pound of fat lost = goal achieved

These contestants do this every day, I have so much respect for what they do on that show.

I think I will do 30 days sugar free and then allocate one cheat day per week thereafter.

After looking at those peanut butter-pretzel-m&m covered bananas, I might have to fit in one cheat day a week after as well!!

The analogy that worked for me is one pound of fat equals for sticks of butter. When I think about that and how much better I feel without sugar, I am motivated to drop the sugar and eat better.

Really hate the Biggest Loser shows if I'm honest. Hats off to the people for wanting to turn their life around, but that show gives off the wrong picture. Plus these guys are doing it for the added reward of a monetary prize.

Had a sugar binge last night. Had a couple of rice krispies squares and a bag of mini Twirls. Tbh my body did not want it. Nor did my brain. So I made myself eat them. I am glad I did, as I think I have gotten to the point where my body is sick and tired of the amount of sugar it has thrown at it.

Back on track today with quality nutrition and a really good strength session earlier.

The Biggest Loser shows the viewer what is possible to achieve if you put in the effort. Londoner if you follow your logic than we should not watch the Olympics either...It is close to impossible to run 100m under 10 seconds but for the rest of us it provides motivation to do better.

By the way congratulations on picking yourself up again and getting back on track. I look forward to reading about your progress here and in Newbies Nest.

My problem with The Biggest Loser is that achieving the results they do requires too much time and effort - it is not realistic for a person with a "real life" to exercise that much or eat that little and if sustained, those extreme practices can be very damaging. There are alternate ways of eating and exercising that are less extreme and more do-able that can have the same or better metabolic effects.
