The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

    Baby,

I am in! My main challenge, however, is maintaining a proper diet. My main goal is to become Bradley Cooper so I can attract Jennifer Lawrence into my life (that is after watching Silver Lining)

That is pretty funny, Allen! I live on the prairie but just went hiking in the hills at the base of mountains and boy am I feeling it. I'm hoping the thinner air at this elevation is part of my problem because it sure makes me feel like I'm out of shape!

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Hey funny people! I'm off to work and looking forward to having the next 3 days off-- I haven't been to the gym once this week. I don't know how people do it after a hard work day. I always think it could make me feel better-- but my work is so physical that I'm afraid I would collapse with an additional workout. I'm going to ask Londoner to help me a realistic exercise plan.
The No sugar thing is going well-- but now I'd like to take a closer look at the rest of my nutrition. tomorrow!

              Have a super day...

There's a difference between people who sit in front of a screen all day and those with physical jobs LC. You will be far more metabolically active if you are on your feet all day in comparison to a desk worker.

Sure, it's not going to make you super fit, but you will see an increase in daily metabolic rate.

Totally agree with Londoner. I actually invested in a standing desk, and a cheap treadmill that I slide underneath it, so that I can walk at a slow pace as I work all day. Sometimes you have to slow down or stop to do some tasks, but for surfing/reading etc. it works great, and keeps me slightly more mobile...

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Well, all the effort that I have put into my work outs has been wiped out by binge eating again this week. On the positive I have not gained any weight. So I am eating Boston Donuts now and will start on the 30 day challenge tomorrow.

By the way do you guys think that extreme high and lows come with an all or nothing personality? Sometimes I feel like I am an unstoppable force. I can work out like Arnold, sell an ice cream to an Eskimo and feel on top of the world.... Other times I do not even want to look up when I am walking down the street. This emotional roller coaster used to drive me to alcohol and now drives me to food. I wish I could be a bit more level but I have been like this all my life...

I never used to like sweets that much before stopping drinking either.

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Hey AllanK, I was just thinking about that last night. I was wishing very much that I could be more moderate about everything in life. I definitely think this "personality type" it brings on more highs and lows--which I used to think was "exciting", but which I now find to be exhausting!!
I honestly don't think I can be more moderate-- but I'm hoping that with giving up the AL, getting the nutrition and exercise in place-- being realistic and being "OK" with what that means--and finding the discipline to stick with it, daily meditation, that I will at least find more balance in my life. Quitting the drinking has helped loads! I would say I feel 80-90% more stable, even 90% more stable than I did while drinking. That is most important-- I'm working on giving up this perfectionism, which I know from reading here, many of us suffer from. Nosugar posted a great link about a book called The Gifts of Imperfection, which I haven't finished. Self acceptance is most definitely a big part of the struggle.

Hi Lifechange you are right, we need to make the best of our personality type. If anything we need to learn to maximise/extend the high periods and minimise/reduce the low times.

Today I went to a supermarket, got myself very low fat greek fruit yourghurts. It is a pack of 12, each has about 70 calories. Well guess what happened next? They were so delicious I ate all 12 of them So the lesson here is: it is not enough to just cut out the sugar, it is also to stop associating food with reward/emotion.

                        hmmmmmmmmmm...

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

                          Allan,

You seem to consume a low fat diet. It turns out that the data supporting that as the key to good health are slim to none.

Here are some articles summarizing the data:

15 Million Reasons We’re Told to Eat a Low-Fat Diet
Do Low-Fat Diets Actually Work? A Critical Look

These are from a website that is based on science but not written for scientists or physicians. There are numerous others that present essentially the same information.

Good fat is so satiating, you naturally consume less total food.

Anyway, something to look at if you're bored this weekend . Hope you have a good one! NS

This no sugar thing is so difficult! I don't know what to do. I thought yesterday that I could make Friday my cheat day-- I don't see it stopping there, though. Although yesterday I didn't eat emotionally, at least. I just wanted to eat some chocolate, plain and simple, and I didn't want to put up such a fight with myself or "substitute" with something else.
                                How is everyone today?
