The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

    Hi, Rusty

L-Glut was much more useful for me with sugar than with AL. Hope today goes well for you!

So I want to try the Lglut for sugar cravings-- how much should one start with and in which form? And how do you know the level of quality of the supplement?

        Hi, LifeChange

I buy either the bulk powder or 500 mg gelatin capsules from a reputable health food store. Put 1/4 tsp or 1-2 capsules under your tongue and allow to dissolve slowly. Luckily it is one of the few amino acids that tastes ok! Your brain can metabolize L-glut so it reduces the cravings for sugar. Studies have used up to 10grams/day but I used 2-3 at most. people with kidney or liver damage (or cancer) shouldn't supplement w/o medical advice. Hope it helps!

thanks NS-- I didn't know about letting them dissolve under your tongue-- what happens if you just swallow them?

Absorption from under your tongue is more complete (and faster?) than from in your GI tract.

              Hi Fly!
              Hi Rusty!!

It would be great to have some more people posting here about this sugar free journey.
Allan said recently that he thought it was more difficult than quitting AL. I'm afraid to say it, 'cause I don't want to jinx myself, but I think I agree. I've just signed on the roll call at Day 1 again. Everyone decides for themselves what sugar free means, as we all have different wants and needs. Maybe that's one of the reasons it's more difficult. With AL the rules are clear and the same for everyone who wants to be sober. No alcohol. period. It's of course also easier to justify eating sugar (if you don't have related health problems) because it isn't life threatening, or affecting your mind in a super obvious way.
Still, I don't feel well when I eat it and I KNOW this and then I go ahead and consume it anyway. Hmmm. It helped a lot when I cut out gluten, which is again my plan. So I've thrown away the leftover cookie dough and sweets from my daughters birthday party. I don't like to throw things away, but I actually don't want the kids eating anymore either. If it isn't in the house, we don't eat it here. Go figure!!

So for me, sugar free means no sugar, no gluten, no sweeteners. Simple and clear. One day at a time.

I haven't watched this yet, but the article is pretty damning of sugar.

Totally agree. I try top buy just enough food for one day, it is time consuming to keep buying groceries every day but at least it increases my chances of sticking to my planned diet for that day.

Sugar free to me means that I'm avoiding carbs. I don't eat grains or rice or potatoes. I don't use sugar. I do use a bit of stevia in my morning coffee. No desserts or juice. I did eat a mango the other day, but for the most part I eat eggs, cheese, meats, and veggies. Occasionally fruit.

That's about where I am, also, FlyAway, but I also eat many nuts, coconut, very dark chocolate, and most dairy products. I avoid seed oils. How long have you been eating this way? Did your health improve?

Hi NoSugar, what kind of nuts do you eat? I'm only eating walnuts and macadamias (expensive!!) because I read that other nuts like cashews carry 'mould' which isn't good for candida ( which I think I have)
Do you eat coconuts or just the juice?. I try to take a tbspoon of coconut oil every day as well because it's a great anti-fungal

I eat nuts too and use coconut oil a lot. I first started eating this way in 2007. I had been diagnosed as having IBS a couple years earlier and those problems immediately went away. My total cholesterol dropped by 60 points.

When I stopped drinking I craved sugar intensely. I let my low sugar diet go in order to conquer my drinking. Now I'm trying to get my diet back under control. It's been around 40 days without sugar for me now. I had a couple days last week that were awful, but I seem to be past that now.

That is what I do, and have for years. I'm not suggesting everyone else do the same. But not eating carbs has eliminated my IBS symptoms, keeps my cholesterol under control, and keeps my weight down.

Interesting. Do you perform much exercise? I know everyone is different, and I am open to all sorts of dietary strategies.

I am back on track tomorrow. I've had a week long binge of a hyper caloric diet high in all sorts of processed foods. Lots of sugars and fats. Not a lot of protein.

Tomorrow mornings workout is gonna suck, but it will get me back on track. Then a shop for some meats and plenty of non-starchy veg.

Don't drink AL, and I will stick to this right through until Christmas.
