The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

    Hi, Chief :welcome:

I've also found a huge reduction in arthritic pain with the no sugar approach. My right knee is still a bugger but my hands don't hurt at all which is great since I type all day!

Nice to see you here! NS

      Thanks!

Yup, arthritis is one of the things that can massively improve when you start to watch your sugar intake. As you probably know inflammation plays a big part in it, and we can (partly) control inflammation with food choices.

Also: my triglyceride level had dropped from 221 to... 86 in that same period. I would lie if I said that that's completely down to eliminating sugar from my diet, but not by much, as I'm certainly not eating "fat free". (actually, fat free most of the time means "we have replaced the healthy fats with sugar for your convenience"...)

Needless to say my doc was a bit surprised by all this.

        .
The source of blood TG is carbohydrate, not fat, so your diet really is helping! That is the blood lipid of more concern re: heart disease than cholesterol so you've really done good things for yourself! The weight loss is impressive, too .

One of my favorite "side effects" is having so much more energy (not that getting rid of AL wasn't a key factor there :H)!

It will be good when the message about certain dietary fats being good/neutral finally makes it to the mass media. It is hard to undo 30 years worth of powerful messaging, though.

I'm losing some weight by cutting out sugar, gluten, and excess carbs. I was happy to see the scale said 193 this morning. Next up goal: get it below 190! :O

Since we're talking about weight! I was shocked to step on the scale today to see that I've lost about 2.5 kg in the past 2 weeks. And 3 inches from around my waist since I stopped drinking in September! I thought my clothes were fitting better..

Hi Chief! Good to see you here! It sounds like you've already reaped some huge benefits from cutting out sugar-- join us here and on the Roll call thread. The more the merrier, for sure!

How are you doing, Londoner? I agree with what NS said. We make our own SF rules-- and as long as we're honest with ourselves, we're ok, right? I had a bite of chocolate yesterday, but it was definitely still a sugar free day! Know what I mean?

Today is day 12 for me and I'm at the end of it-- my personal best up to now. It's so much easier now.

We'll see how I'll hold up while visiting family!! I'm not planning to fail, but I have no idea how I'll react if pressured. With AL it's clear as day, thank god!

Ooooooooooooooops I had some sugary foods

Went to Whole Foods again and tried their delicious tiramisu with coffee. Then on my way home I bought two cupcake which I will enjoy tonight.

I have had 20 days off from sugar and I will be on the roll call tomorrow or Monday at the latest. I am thinking to give my self one, may be even two days a week, when I could have a treat but set a limit of say 1000 calories. So that treat doesn't turn into a binge. I will have something to look forward to each week and still be able to enjoy the benefit of 312 sugar free days a year.

                    What do you guys think?

Hi Allan, I think everyone has to try out what they want to try out! You'll probably know fairly quickly whether or not you can have a set up like that-- would be great. Just promise to be honest with yourself. That's most important. Listen to and take care of your body-- let us know how it goes..

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Binged last night. Smashed down a load of cookies, for no real reason. Well, I know the reason. I am not pushing myself to progress with anything and I fell back on sugar as a comfort.

I feel low on energy today, and lack motivation to work out but I know this will pass.

The main thing is I stay AF this weekend.

Be extra careful, Londoner. My experience has been that sugary carbs increase my desire to drink. Plus it is easy to fall into the "I screwed up anyway" trap. Avoid that one - it is so hard to get out. Do you have your plans in place for the weekend?

                            Yes Sugar - no plans

Well nowhere that involves partying or drink. I've rejected all of those offers.
