The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

    Hello everyone!
NS, thanks for the yummy looking pancake recipe!
Skull, glad you're back on!!! I made the mistake of keeping some ice cream bars in my freezer last week and ate all of them on Sunday-- I felt like a piece of crap after that, I'll tell you.. Have been sf this past week, though. I'm totally like you with the "little bit" being a death sentence. I seem to do all right with fruit and have been stewing plums then eating them with oats and a fresh cheese/yoghurt mix. Also frozen grapes are a really tasty treat..
Eloise! Lglut really seems to help with the cravings. I have to get some more, too--I had capsules before and I cut them open and put the powder under my tongue, upon NS's advice.

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Hi Lifechange... what I do is I forget to eat and then think 'hey, lets have a sweet snack instead?'
I am able to just have one ice cream a day, or every other day, but even that seems a bit excessive.
My husband is the champion enabler and comes from the market with all kinds of sweety snacks. However, if he eats a lot he doesn't drink and I think it is better this way, so I don't say much. His drinking isn't a big deal but I do notice he is nervous and tense the next day. And somehow I am not gaining weight? I guess it is the gym but since the cancer surgery I have been really only going 2x per week. I get soooooo tired after the gym I have to go back to bed. Embarrassing!!

I just had lunch and more LGlut... off to make cookies!

Day 2 of sugar free and feeling good. Hope everyone is well
Skull i feel exactly the same way,

        if i have a 25g chocolate bar i will eat 250g.

People always say everything is good in moderation. I don't agree. Having one piece of chocolate only make you want it more.

Its like sleeping next to a supermodel and not being able to do anything about it. i would rather sleep alone in that case. (hope this is not sexists)

Lets see if I do this for a week if the sugar eating settles a bit. Even if it is just a little I am gonna be happy. I also ate fruit for breakfast.
          Lets see?
Today went better with the sweets.
          And I only ate a 1/2 cookie.

Will follow the same plan tomorrow. If this actually works I am gonna be so happy.
I want to take my mind off the sugar like it is off the wine!

Well, didn't do great on Saturday, had some junk and some sugary fruit jam (a bunch of it!) but I'm back today and feeling good. Healthy food and L-Glutamine and shooting for sugar free all week!

Skull, we are on the same roller coaster weeks of healthy eating followed by days of binges! I bought a huge jar of peanut butter, thinking I would eat only one spoon a day. It is a good source of fat and fiber. unfortunately I consumed the entire jar in one sitting....

Yep Allan, sounds like we are definitely on the same rollercoaster! For me I do ok as long as I have healthy fats up to about 60g/day, and regulate my carbs (150-200g/day) and proteins too (170g/day)- I need to make sure to hit these numbers every day, as too little is more problematic than too much for me, because too little makes a binge inevitable- but sugar is my weakest spot right now. I'm trying to get used to being completely sugar free except for natural sugars (fruit).

Keep it up my friend, we'll get there

The Sugar Free Challenge - Who is in??

Hey Eloise thanks for asking This week is actually going pretty well. As I mentioned before, I am an all or nothing person. After Saturday's sugar binge, I was back on the "no sugar at all" as of Sunday. So that makes today Day 5 of no sugar, and all healthy carbs/fats/protein.

I've lost about 3 or 4 lbs this week, which is to be expected- largely water weight due to carbs/sugar that is now being shed. But still nice to see the scale drop.

Mood- I'm doing good now that I'm not restricting my carbs as much. I used to restrict them to almost nothing every other day. Now, I eat them everyday, just in sane amounts. Between 150-200g. If I keep it in this "sweet spot" then I am less likely to go crazy on a binge because my hunger is pretty sated. Fat is kept between 50-60g, which allows me some butter, bacon or ground beef, and peanut butter, but all just in small amounts.

Keeping my protein high (170g) is important so that I feel full. All in all, this diet keeps me right at between 1800-2000 calories per day, a deficit of roughly 700 calories.

I am also doing about 2 scoops of L-Glutamine (one at lunch one at dinner) just to fend of sugar cravings. It didn't seem to do much previously but now that I'm on a more sane diet, sugar cravings have been actually pretty non-existent for a change. It's been nice.

I'm sleeping well, a good 9 hours per night almost uninterrupted, I'm shedding a bit of weight, and my sex drive is, well... active and quite noticeable on a daily basis ... which wasn't always the case. So all that, especially without insane sugar cravings, and feeling pretty full and satisfied most of the day, leads me to believe that I'm on the right path.

So, all's well so far! I have another week of eating like this before yet another out of town trip, a long weekend to see family, and attend a wedding. I should probably start thinking about how I'm going to be good and not just binge while I'm there...

Well, staying sugar-free over the weekend, at a family wedding... THAT was a gigantic FAIL. Haha. Oh well it is what it is. Now I have ALL my travel/social obligations behind me and I can just work and live in my comfy little life in my home city without interruption. As such, tonight I'm getting like a half dozen donuts, and tomorrow will be back to day one Sugar free.
