    Xmas Parties.

Thanks everybody for your advice, I would imagine a few newbies will be facing this dilemma also which is why I posted it.
LOL Byrdlady that what I was worrying about them seeing a chink in my armour.
Supercrew nailed it though really just say the truth be firm and to hell with everyone.
They wont even notice I m not drinking once they start playing poker.
I really was a stay at home drinker and I cracked that easily when my time came, I consider this my final hurdle. I am now positive it will be nothing to worry about, Thanks everyone again

Brilliant post super crew. We all need to learn that quitting booze is a positive not a negative, this is all part of making the change to an AF life x

        Xmas Parties.

Super crew/. Great post! You are right: I once asked a distant relative about him quitting drinking only because I wanted to quit, unfortunately he took it as an offense and said he didn't want to talk about it and avoided me since. But I agree, people who ask further probably want to quit themselves.

          So true, so very true.

Uk is going mad with alcohell adverts at the moment, Just heard one on the radio, big supermarket talking about a cheeky glass of champagne on Christmas morning then in the same sentence mentions wine for Lunch, unreal. Every paper carries full page adverts for alcohell along with tv adverts , its everywhere ! The nation is possessed !

But reading in the mail today, states 38% of the French population are now teetotal and that Wine drinking has dramatically declined.

            Xmas Parties.

wow - makes me think twice about things and how alcohol is pushed in different places. We don't have Christmas holidays or parties here in China (obviously)..but I can imagine the stress it brings about indeed and after reading the comments my support goes out to all of you indeed on being strong.

In China, there is a great pressure to drink at business events etc, but there is also a respect if you just say no...and saying no (and being proud of saying no) is one of the hardest things.

              Xmas Parties.

Alcohol has such a powerful hold over us as human beings, that even just flirting with it can lead to problems that not only wreck your lives but those closet to you as well.I m sure most of us on here have experienced that and we all know it is not uncommon.
Ann Caroline mentioned the Jason Vale book and I have read it and he makes some very interesting points.
So taking in to consideration that we know how powerful a drug alcohol is and the problems it can cause people when they get addicted.
Why is it considered normal that after a years hard work the owner of a successful company and with the best intentions throws a party with free booze as a reward total madness.
The only thing IMO that separates hard drugs like heroin and alcohol is that the goverment taxes the one that is legal

There summer do was a day at the races all drinks free and everybody got smashed including me it was a fantastic day.
Since then I have stopped drinking
There Xmas party is a 007 Casino night with everyone dressing up free booze etc.
I think you even get greeted with a Martini so how do I get out of this not drinking alcohol.
Cant say I am driving as I live around the corner
Just tell the truth perhaps but that I can see having complications !!
Strange thing is I know I will have a better night not drinking" certainly will have more chance of winning money " but when your under the spell of alcohol people just cant see that, me myself included until I broke the spell :O)
                Any ideas peeps
ether don't go or just be the DD for the group of people.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

                    Xmas Parties.

                    gmc,

                    Welcome back.

You learned a valuable lesson and it is the one posted on your signature line.

What is it going to take for you to be able to quit again?

I have relapsed many, many times, so I understand. Once the drinking starts, it is very difficult to get back on the wagon.

Are you ready to get back up?
