Yes, was drinking as a hangover buster. I thought I was brill and started running aged 50! Trying to get sober that long ago.

When I got sober I ran faster and won nearly every race in my category. But my biggest reward was being sober.

I always did my long runs (between 9miles and 16miles) on Sunday mornings... with a hangover. I'd never have much of a headache, but I would make sure i'd have plenty of paracetamol/anadin on hand... and have a good breakfast... wait 90mins and then head out. Bonkers really.

But the more i read about AL, the more i wonder whether AL was really part of my fuel. I'd eat less, drink more in the evenings. When i woke up, I'd be groggy but still a bit buzzy with the sugar... so would go running and sweat it off.

I've not run enough since sobering up to notice too much of a difference... however what i do like is that if i have the time and inclination, I can go running in the evenings, which, for obvious reasons, I could never do before :H

As questy says - yer an inspiration mrsa.

Dead interesting Arsey! I used to think it was great running after drinking but when I run after being soberit is so wonderful even when I have been slower

Not sure about being an inspiration though. Been a pain in the arse for my family

Och ye are an inspiration. I'm certainly more desiring to go for a run when i know others are doing it. I'm hoping that once my exam on Friday is over... then i can kick back and free myself to run more.

Sober runs are, yes, way better. Actually, thinking back over November, I never went for a run after drinking... I wasn't in the swing of daily drinking compared to pre-joining MWO, so when i did (drink) my body was a bit battered from it.

It's my philosophy exam - I'm the most part time student ever! - This semester I've been studying Practical Reason...

Actually "studying" is really not true. Trying to remember the bare bones so as i pass is what i'm hoping for!

                                Hiya anyone that's still up!

I haven't read back... in fact just logged on. Been a busy day.

Went to the rehab, spent a couple of hours there and I'm really quite impressed. Their program seems really on the ball and the accommodations and main central meeting area is very nice. Apart from counselling, phsychiatry and AA, they do art therapy, music & psychodrama therapy, even equine therapy... and they have a trainer and mini gym and they are heavy into nutrition. And there are activities at the weekends... you go off on picnics, fishing charters and stuff. Sounds like all fun but in actual fact, the therapy, group meetings, aa meetings etc. is very intensive. Anyway... Monday is the day.

I hope youz are all well... xxx
