My tuppenyworth...I have absolutely no problem with using wine or even cider or beer for cooking, and I do...lots. As far as I can tell, all or nearly all of the alcohol evaporates and I think the wine adds greatly to the taste of a lot sauces and stocks. Don't have a problem with wine at a civilised meal in company either. Two, three, or four glasses, no problem. That's fine. It's what happens when I'm on my own that's the problem (and that's most of the time). I get the shakes when sober, which I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is an indicatiion of physical dependency, but I can overcome that. It's the psychological dependency that's the issue for me. It's when I'm on my own (which is most of the time) and there's a bottle of something strong in the house that it becomes a problem.

I'm being a bit of a pain in the arse. I'm scared quite honestly... and I didn't mean to piss you off Jacks.
Dear Jackie,
You are one of my best friends...
Lots of love,

With regards to wine in cooking - don't use it - never have - no particular reason just never have. (Cos I'm a crap cook lol)
Mouthwash and medicine - don't use either - think over the counter stuff is shite anyway ! And if the doctor prescribes something if I'm
Ill I'm gonna take it - nit with the intention of getting drunk - just to get well.Trying again from 22nd September 2014 Keeping it simple. Keeping it real.

Rome was not built in a day but it looks to me like you had a break-through. I reckon you are gaining insight.
Yes, the shakes are an indicator but I think you might be able to fix that with drinking more water and.... roll of drums..... less whiskey.
:alf:
Course the running helps and all.

I got a wee query. I rarely got the shakes... and when I say shakes, I mean like my alkie colleague at work who physically shakes everyday - his handwriting shows it well (I've seen this in other alkies before). Sure, my handwriting wasn't sturdy sometimes - was aware of that - but never the shakes where my hands physically shook so as others could see. Or have I just forgotten?

I was HORRIFIED one day... my hands shook... it was a few New Years ago. 1st of Jan or the 2nd... was a bit of a blur really. So, no, I don't get that usually.... but what I get instead is a debilitating illness that ruins my enjoyment of life.
Shake or no shake... it sucks.

I know you're scared Zennifer, hun.:l Just trying to pass on some of my scant wisdom.
I drank to escape...............gawd how many people say that. I drank so much that I became physically dependent. Not a pretty sight gagging a vodka down first thing in the morning just to be 'normal'.
So there I was a wreck. A nicely married woman who no-one would ever have dreamed that she'd have to be de-toxed 11/12 times and apart from the last time didn't keep her quit going.
I'll never forget asking the kids what was the best thing about me being sober and it was that I'd stopped crying and started laughing more. Oh and I'd stopped being sick in the morning.
Gawd you'd think I'd been at the gin I'm getting maudlin, although I'm happy in my sobriety those thoughts are not far from my mind.It could be worse, I could be filing.
