Thanks Fly, Glass and Juja. I think we as a culture are so conflicted about end of life care. MIL's chart was clearly marked "no hospital" but they called anyway. I suppose some families might change their mind when the occasion actually arrives. But I think perhaps no hospital has provided a useful service to a person with severe dementia who is in the last weeks of her life. The last time they admitted her they didn't send her meals ( oh, you have to order your meals) and they never gave her the meds she was supposed to have. This was a major medical center, they didn't want her or have time for her.My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. One Step at a Time - February 2013
Morning. Thank you all for the prayers & support. It means so much to me. Thanks Mama for keeping everyone updated. Yesterday was just a fog.
I had a long talk with the head nurse yesterday. When my Dad was admitted and they asked him what his wishes were if he needed to be resucitated (can't think of the correct terminology right now). He said that he wanted them to do anything even be intubated. Well, I know that's not what he really wants. I had a long talk with the nurse and he suggested that I talk to my brother and get this noted. That with my Dads age & health problem that wasn't what we should be doing. Anyway, I talked to my brother and we ended up having someone come in that went over the list of what he chooses to have done if something happened. Right away when she asked if he wanted to be intubated, my Dad said no. It was hard but I knew we had to do this. We got my brother & mine health power of attorney on file over there. We had the paperwork but it wasn't on file.
Dad has had more than one heart attack. He is having problems breathing. We are hoping that we can get him home in a couple of days. My brother called & talked to the nurse. He had a good nights sleep (he hadn't slept for a couple of days) but he had some breathing problems. They are doing a CT scan this morning.
Things are not good and I know that it is not going to be easy. But, I don't want him to suffer. Our hopes are to get him home and that he have a few more months.
I'll keep you posted as I can. Mama, I'll probably keep texting you if that's ok. That's easier for me while I'm at the hospital.
I love you all. Thank you all for being here. :h"Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.".....Carol Burnett

Hey NoraC I totally feel your pain, this was the worst week for me as it was the 2 years since my father passed and for some reason it hit me harder this time than it ever has. I felt so alone and hopeless for a few days but today I am picking up my life and remembering him in a positive way and for me to build on.
Thank you all others that gave me words of wisdom, it is appreciated.

Mama and Sunbeam,
Have a peaceful day, as much as that's possible...:l
Elder care for me today. Crossing my fingers.
Oh, and since we're all more than stressed, you'll understand this: My father gave me an unexpected check for $500 as a thank-you for all I do for my mother. Friday night I was cleaning out my purse, and evidently threw it away with all the other debris I found. :upset: I dread telling him.
I'm also seeing my psych, and will discuss AB.
Sunny and nice today. February is a delightul month, full of changes. The birds are singing like mad. They know something's up--spring."Remember, you are responsible for creating your life by every thought, action, choice. Choose well." Oprah Winfrey

Loving a healthy morning, keeping my lucky penny and hoping that someone calls me and offers me a job that cuts down all this travel.
Nothing wrong with hoping.

Morning all!
Sun - I'm glad things are looking up for your MIL.
Nora - I hope you can feel our prayers and love...we are definitely thinking about you! :h
Mama - I hope you have a good day at work...I can't believe it's Monday again *sigh*. Okay, so we didn't quite make it to the gym at 5am this morning...but we WILL go tonight. We decided that going at 5am may burn us out...so we better take this slow...I'm all for that! LOL
I hope you're all well today!
Love,
