    Travel Advice

Hi All. I am looking for some travel advice. I currently live in Germany but I work for a company in the USA. I just found out that next week I will be traveling to our office in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for internal training. Now, usually travel is a HUGE cue for me to go crazy with AL. I worked in LA for most of 2010 and I probably drank 2 bottles of wine per evening with a work colleague. Plus, with the long flight across the ocean ahead of me, my normal routine is to order as many drinks as possible so I can pass out during the long flight, then continue to drink once I arrive in the USA so I can pass out that night. Well, I don't want to do that this time. I want to stick to healthy hydrating drinks during the flight and keep up my willpower around my USA colleagues (who are big drinkers). How can I be social with my peeps and still keep to my goals? Can anyone offer any tips? Thank you! :thanks:

Hi MS, Sorry I don't have any tips except maybe get yourself some sleeping pills for the trip. Byrdie used to have to be social around drinking work colleagues. If she doesn't find her way over here you might want to PM her directly.

    Best of luck!
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

Thank you Siren. I will get in touch with Byrdie because I am a bit nervous about the trip. It's so easy to lose strength and say "well, just one...". Sleeping pills are a good idea for the airplane. I usually don't sleep on the long flights, but that could be because I'm usually tipsy or drunk on those flights... and as I'm learning, this is not conducive to good sleep. Thanks again for the suggestions!

I work in a high profile sales role. My job is taking clients out and getting them pissed and showing them a good time, including lots of travel.

As for tips it comes down to will power. Also so my clients thought I was drinking I ordered coke and a small glass so it look like a coke and spirits drink.
If drinking is interfering with your work, you're probably a heavy drinker. If work is interfering with your drinking, you're probably an alcoholic.

Get some melatonin for the flight and rescue remedy for the days before.

If you can't sleep don't sweat it, take books. Reading is your new friend.

All the anxiety is still your new sobriety LOOKING for excuses and problems to justify drinking.

Look around the plane, many, many people do not drink on planes as it increases dehydration and the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
