Afternoon!

I haven't been doing very well on setting boundaries and now the therapist has decided I'm co-dependent... and not just with one person, with a load of people. She's told me I need to get more selfish. I don't think selfish is a good thing so I'm really struggling to wrap my head around this. Anyone have any experience with the same thing?

What kind of boundaries do they think you need to set zenny?
Well... I am not good at saying "no" and she picked up on it right at the start. (Incidentally, Thursday's group therapist is my assigned one and I'll be doing one-on-one with her after IOP.) She says I'm giving too much of my energy to other people, that I have to put myself first. And now she's decided, seeing as I'm not getting the hang of it, that I'm co-dependent. Basically, I need to be able to assert myself and get my own needs met before dealing with everyone else's...
She gave me an exercise which I'm typing up just now. I'll drop it in the thread when I'm finished. Maybe someone else has a problem saying "no" as apparently addicts and alkies are notorious for it. Who knew? I always thought we were a selfish bunch!
How's yourself? )

I'm not terribly good at saying no either, for example last week I drove 40 miles to meet my brother for lunch and I didn't want to go, but couldn't say no for fear of hurting his feelings. Fortunately my social life is very limited so the problem doesn't arise too often. I would imagine it's much harder for you cos you have a much bigger social circle.
I'm having a good day today, thanks, mainly cos I'm sober so I've got a few things done around the house.
