Recluse;1471235 wrote: I'm not terribly good at saying no either, for example last week I drove 40 miles to meet my brother for lunch and I didn't want to go, but couldn't say no for fear of hurting his feelings. Fortunately my social life is very limited so the problem doesn't arise too often. I would imagine it's much harder for you cos you have a much bigger social circle.

I'm having a good day today, thanks, mainly cos I'm sober so I've got a few things done around the house.
YAY!!! On the sober bit! :l

The therapist?s wee ?trick? might help you and all Reccy.

We had to pick a situation that is difficult to confront. My situation was a girl from rehab that keeps on texting me? she?s really clingy and she steals, I don?t trust her and I want nowt to do with her. The therapist spent ages trying to get me to say NO to her. ?N-O? NO! No is a complete sentence!? But I was afraid of hurting the girl?s feelings. So she came out with this drill?

The premise is to keep the onus on yourself? ?I? statements are less likely to make someone become defensive than ?you? statements?

I feel _______________ (emotion) when you _________________ (action). Next time I would appreciate it if you ______________ (the action you want).

?I feel uncomfortable when you continuously ask me to do activities with you. Next time I would appreciate it if you wait for me to ask you.?

Trying to think of one for your brother?s lunches! Does he drive 40 miles too, to meet you?

Yes he does, zenny. He's down in Surrey and I'm in Oxon, so we found a pub about half way between us, just off the M40. Quite a nice place as it happens.

Ach, I think you're stuck with it Reccy! Saying "I feel depressed with you ask me to meet you for lunch. Next time I would appreciate it if you wait for me to ask you" does not seem like a fitting thing to say to one's own brother!!! :H

Speaking of family, when are you off to visit your mum? She must be proud of the progress you've made with the drink.

I've been doing unexciting things like cleaning the bog, vacuum cleaning, sweeping up the leaves outside etc. When the good (meaning AF) days come along, I have to make the most of them. Just making a bite to eat at the mo.

I'm going to wait till the summer now Reccy. I finish IOP in 5 weeks then go on to aftercare and therapy and they want me to have a firm foothold, like a couple of months, before I take off over the Atlantic. So, at that point, I might as well wait until the warmer weather...

Yep, me mam is well chuffed! lol

It probably does make sense to wait till the summer under the circumstances, I can see the logic. Have to go out now. Laters. :l

                      Evenin Troops... anyone about?

THANKYOU for the 90 day congrats. Feel kinda like, well, humbled i suppose. Anyways i'm back from work, still downing the Vit C for me manfwoo-over-the-cuckoos-nest and relaxing ... not much on. Friday's a school night for me.

Zen good to read your posts. On a personal note, I do find it both interesting and helpful to hear about your journey though rehab and how you continue to work through everything now yer out ("now yer out?" God, didn't half make it sound like prison there :H)

Some planters, dog chews and choclit. Did a bit of damage in Primark then got some flat shoes in another shop. Aha there ya go Zennifer must have been a bit of telepathy going on.
