Because it's a universal service. Everyone with or without money is entitled to healthcare in the UK. Fair enough that Mr JC pays a lot in NHI contributions, but with the health care from the NHS we've had over the last few years there is no way on earth we could have afforded to pay.

I have to warn you I'm it's biggest fan. It's far from perfect but it's ours and works well most of the time.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Yes Jacks same here - no-one refused healthcare. Liike Mr JC I pay NHI every week since I was 17 - but when I need to go to a doctor I have to pay €50 and pay for prescription. :durn:
Is the doctor free for everyone including Mr JC ?

Gawd I suppose I paid a fair few squillion into the pot when I had a proper job.

Oh yep. The only thing we have to pay for is prescriptions, dentists, them people what do yer feet (whatever their name is) and opticians. That's England. I know they don't pay prescription charges in Scotland and Wales but not sure about the rest.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Does that mean after the initial appointment you have to pay each time you go for a follow up appointment?

AND prob anything that was wrong with me in recent years could prolly be related back to the grog or preventitive blood tests etc - so doesen't count as real visits :H

EVERY time & if you have kids & no medical card you have to pay for them too !
I work with a girl that hubs up & left her with 2 kids - she has no medical card 'cos she works full time - shockingly unfair !
