BLIKSEM
I'll try and do the phonetic spelling later... no good at that.
Literal translation: thunderbolt
Metaphorically: one of the most versatile swearworrds in Afrikaans. Most often used as an equivalent to "you bastard". Typically also uttered as an expression of pain. From my own bitter experience, I said "bliksem" the last time I clumsily tried to hammer a nail into a wall and hit my thumb instead. Or when I realised, just too late, that I had been caught by a traffic camera.
