One Step at a Time - April 2013

Ten months ago tomorrow I decided to finally go AF for life. I was done with trying to drink moderately, though I was pretty successful on that path for about five years. But it was sometimes a struggle, I have health issues that are better without alcohol, and I have better things to do with my life. I stumbled a couple of times, so my official quit date is Sept 1, but I actually was AF most of last summer. I am noticing the difference now: I can pursue my gardening passion with greater endurance and comfort, and I am able to eat a wider variety of foods in spite of my GERD (severe acid reflux).

Thank you friends, for all the support you have given me, especially Nora, Mama Bear, and K9. You have been with me during this step in my journey, and I am very grateful. I will continue to pop in, but my confidence in staying AF is growing, so I am less compelled to post.

There was an interesting article published recently in the NY Times Sunday Magazine. It was about a guy who is highly productive, and his secret to success was giving to others. I believe that is how this site works.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

One Step at a Time - April 2013

      Good morning all,
Totally agree with you Sunbeam, I have made the same choice as you and now into my 4th month I am starting to feel the rewards.
I agree with you about the tremendous support found here but I will still be writing in as I am not quite ready to be on my own just yet.
Hope everyone has a fantastic Sunday.
      FT
AF with a few speed bumps during 2014 & 2015 but will succeed.
As of 4/12/2014 I have not smoked at all and feel great.

Hey all ..... sorry that I haven't been around. And, of course, I'm not mad at you!!!! I appreciate the love and the words of wisdom.
I had a good talk with my therapist yesterday.
There has been a lot of stuff going on here that I just haven't been able to sit and talk out here. Maybe today I'll be able to open up and talk.
        But, I am feeling better.
I love you all. Thank you all for being here with me.

Sun I am so happy for you! Ten months was one of those key "a-ha" moments in my sobriety where something just clicked and everything felt better. I love hearing that your confidence is strong. Enjoy your garden.

Fly, as you know, getting closer to a year is a real confidence builder. I have been af through all the rhythms that come with life.

Mama, I'm not going away, just checking in less, and saying less when I do. I have already done this somewhat. I love and appreciate you all too much to go away completely.

                    Good morning,
You guys are the greatest, usually first thing in the am is coffee and reading MWO and getting the proper inspirations for the day.
                    Thank you all,

FT- I generally wait until I get on line at the office, have my coffee, then read MWO between calls. And yes, our management is ok with us surfing the inet when we are not on a call.

Im like BHOG - rototvirus? My interpretation of that is what ever goes in rotates right back out, just my thought - :-)
What a Monday, today I got up and after my usual coffee and MWO reading and wondering what to do today I did something totally crazy, I painted my kitchen... No kidding. The truth is as I start to get better in my recovery I do find that I am developing a increased inner strength and a wanting to do things instead of laying about and doing nothing. It has a lot to do with just feeling better, my mind (ok stop laughing) and my lungs being able to breath makes the big difference.
Again a big thank you to you all for being there.

Hey all....sorry not going to read back today.

My Aunt passed away during the night. I'll be flying up to Oregon on Friday. I'm going with my other cousin (her Dad passed away a month after my Dad). They are all together in Heaven now.

I am so sorry Nora, but I am glad you posted.
Evidentally rotovirus is extremely rare for adults, but it's the number one killer of children under 5 in undeveloped countries. I have no idea how i got it. I am on antibiotics and chugging Gatorade to keep from getting dehydrated. I feel better, knowing what it is, but I am kind of freaked out. There will lots of hand washing going forward.....
                                LOVE YOU NORA
