Molly, I am not aware of any MWO "inmates" in Utah. many years ago, there was one other one, at the opposite end of the state, we never were able to meet up. I did meet one (for coffee) from Texas who was traveling through.

Well, your English friend is correct, guns are sold everywhere. Only 3.2 % beer is sold in grocery stores and gas stations; real beer, hard alcohol, and wine are only available at state-owned and operated liquor stores. The State facilities do not advertise, they are not listed in the phone book; and the hours are 11 Am-10 PM, never on Sunday. Bars, and the availability of a drink, is much more open than when I moved here in 1976. But, alcoholism is still pretty common.BHOG

Yeah, it's funny, but the time we spent there, really 'normal' drinkers seemed to get hysterical bout getting a drink - including Joe - touch of the 'prohibition' mentality I s'pose. Believe it or not, I was laughing at them, happily NOT having a drink back then (10 yrs ago, our 25th wedding anni.) but about 5 of them ordered a meal they didn't want so they could get a drink with it!!!!
In Toronto the access to hard liquor is quite limited as well, only in state run places, no supermarkets or anything - doesn't seem to put a halt to their gallop either
in Greece you can get small cans of beer from vending machines like a coke during the day.
No-one bothers - it's there all the time in front of you - you don't even see it after a while.

Absolutely right... if it's denied, look out! It's one thing saying "no" yourself and another thing entirely being told you can't have it no matter what.
My mother said everyone went bonkers during prohibition. She ended up in jail one night... the police herded everyone out of a speak easy straight into the slammer. And they didn't give a rat's ass, they were all so pissed off at the prohibition!

Naw. Ultimately it doesn't work Mollers because you just develop a "victim mentality". One has to have full control over themselves and make that executive decision for themselves... anyone else doing it for them, or them being forced somehow... it's never going to stick in the long run. It's good to start with (like in rehab) but one ultimately has to take charge of their own script...

Oh - and agreeing with the prohibition stuff. Zen, like your points with that one - we have to make our own decision. If others force, rebellion ensues. :agreed:
