    Beer Belly

Even though I lost a fair amount of weight after quitting, I still do have a "beer belly"

I seem to recall reading an article years ago, that its not really the beer doing it though. l also work a pretty physical job, so I am surprised I am not on the cover of "Hawt Lawn Studs" Quarterly.............:H

Yup. Got it, and I'm wine drinker, too. It's any AL, I do believe.

Alcohol contains a lot of kcals it also increases testosterone in females and oestrogen in males. Result is altered bodyfat storage - for women it moves towards the waist rather than hips and men get breasts.

I know of men who no longer drink very much and still have a beer belly, sometimes this is also because of poor general body tone and hernia (pretty common in men and most don't know it).
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

I actually lost weight while drinking. Alcohol killed my appetite, so I ate very little. Many days I only drank. My weight loss, though, was not from fat but a loss of muscle. I've started weight training again - something I did before drinking, and it's back to square one.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

Monacat, I also had the belly while drinking. I actually lost 90 lbs before I started drinking and alcohol put alot of it back on especially in the mid section. Now in my 40's it is alot harder to get this stupid weight off. Sugar is still my downfall though...thats my next quit.

              Visceral fat

That belly fat is the worst kind of fat for us health-wise so that is yet another reason to get off alcohol (and sugar).

I'm not sure about the credibility of the overall website where I read this quote so I won't post it here but I think the bottom line is correct: "There are many factors that can cause excessive accumulation of visceral fat. Among them are lack of exercise, high sugar consumption, alcohol consumption, smoking, and stress."

So many of those are present in people who drink -- what a recipe for a health disaster!!

We're all doing ourselves a big favor in so many ways by going AF!

Have a great day! Love, NS :h

My next quit is TV, well all screen time, actually. I sit way to much. I'm going to limit myself to about 30 minutes per day of Internet and TV and it can't be before about 7:30 to 8 in the evening.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

I was bloated ALL OVER when I was drinking...hands, face, feet...now that I am AF and eating healthy and adding some exercise, things are getting back to "normal". It does take time though so be patient!

Hi, MonaCat --- Fat isn't just sitting there :H ! It is much more metabolically active than was thought for many years. And most things Belly Fat is doing aren't good!

                      Have a great day! NS
