    Memorial Day Weekend

To all of us here on this path together:

I read on some threads here that this three day weekend will be a challenge. I just wanted to give one other viewpoint, which might help some of us with our goals.

Here is the US it is Memorial Day. This was originally started to honor the dead of WWI, and then also honor the veterans of that war - the war to end all wars. And because we are human, not saints, we had another war, then another and then way too many wars. And so we set aside a weekend to honor the veterans and the lost of ALL wars.

To me and mine, it is a solemn weekend. Tomorrow I will visit the cemeteries and place huge bunches of lilacs on the graves of my loved ones, and I will remember.

If you have served in your country's armed forces, please allow me to thank you for your service. War is incredibly expensive, and believe me, I am NOT speaking money here. I value you and your sacrifices, and those of your family. May there someday come a time when we do not do this to each other, to ourselves.

    Memorial Day Weekend

    Hi noname girl

I agree. Peace would be nice, but sadly not going to happen.

My brother was shot in the useless war in Vietnam and my daughter is in the Navy.

Thinking of the song-WAR-as in WAR!! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

      Dear NoNameGirl,

My uncle works at the National Cemetery. I attend the Memorial Day service each year. I have also attended two active-duty ceremonies. I don't do very well with any of this. I cry quite a lot. During the rifle salute, my every frazzled nerve screams out for peace. Peace.

Thank you for bringing attention to the reality that this long holiday weekend is not all about BBQs and camping in the rain. It's about those who have been in the trenches and suffered beyond anything that most of us have known.

We really just can't know what war is like unless we've been there. I've not been there. But I can honor those who have. ~

To those who responded, thank you for your reply. I hope that all of us had a good weekend, and that each of us spent a silent moment remembering.
