Interesting about Jill's pal's Da. This will no doubt be controversial but I've often thought to myself that if I were ever diagnosed wit something incurable/terminal I think I would drink again. Maybe not at previous levels - I dunno
I dunno much tonight do I? What's new!:H Do know that am starving and me dinner still aint ready
kinda get you on the incurable disease/would i have a drink thing...
fingers crossed for your nan. all i know about appendix was that i had mine out when i was 11 and it was an emergency op' cos if they didn't op' during the weekend it might have bust by the monday

Yer right Molls - about joining clubs and stuff - I too was sniffy 'bout it. Thought you had to be a bit geeky or summat. But actually, it makes loads of sense, especially cos we find new interests as we tot along our merry way in life.
Aye, our Liam's alright aint he?!

:hallo:
Delighted your girl's home safe and sound and did wee Joey save me a bit of cake.
I remember that thread and I was a no. That was because when my Dad was told he had terminal cancer he started smoking again but refused to drink his last weeks away. Funny that should come up now as it's 14 years ago on Weds (29th) since he died.
Off to have a proper read back.It could be worse, I could be filing.

Now - you've brought me to another point....... (go on ---- yaaaawwwwnnnnn) I was a wet week out of Aiseiri when I posed a question here on mwo 'if you knew you had 3 weeks to live would you drink?' - without even blinking - despite being in FULL acceptance of what alcohol does to me - my answer then was a resounding YES.
Quite a few people agreed with me - then someone (who isn't a diehard black and white person round here) just asked me how could I even think of drinking at that time when I would have so little time to spend with my kids and my husband and leave them with happy memories etc. ------ that NEVER crossed my mind ------- I was still 'me me me me me' --- it was a real eureka moment for me - for sure!!!!
I saw that movie......
Yeah - geeky ---- or - well in Ireland anyway - when I was growing up (Benjy might identify with this) the 'country' girls were great into going to Ceili's and that sort of stuff - and we 'cool' city kids would be laughin at them --- they had a friggin blast tho --- and in my heart of hearts used to think it sounded like a right good laugh ---- nah - us lot thought unless we got blathered on a Sat. night we weren't a bit 'cool'
Not sure if Joe an I are budgin at all tonight - once Joe know's he CAN go out he sort of loses interest -- it's only when I dig my heels in and park on the couch that he gets restless and huffy and puffy:H
Did ye not go the dance halls that my Da never shuts-up about? Maybe that was before yer time... I grew up hearing how great they were. Joe Dolan, Dickie Rock et al..:H

Great that Jilly is back and brought a tear to my eye as you describe it
Arsey - Noseyhole - he who knows everything - says running clubs are #1 way for singles to meet
getting DD to sign up :H
:wavin: Piddlepants and hope Auntie is ok.
My own Aunt was taken in too - she is 89
I've always loved her - she was always swearing and we thought that was brilliant when we were kids :H
Drank large bottles of Guinness all the time. She prob an alkie. Her daughter died at 50 an alko.
I think I may be a younger version of her sometimes - more than like my mother.
She was larger than life and had a very hard life with a b**tard of a husband. She had 15 kids with him and he beat the crap out of her. Died years ago and she danced on his grave.
I will be very sad if anything happens to her - end of an era !

Interesting to hear about yer aunt there Doc - my ma;s cousin, (my 2nd cousin? cousin once removed?) is a succesful artist in Northern Ireland and a love of drink - makes much light of his affection for the vine rouge. Anyways, i always liked to imagine i was like a bit like him - arty, jewlery wearing, smoking and drinking and swearing... Funny how we are drawn so much to an "image" we want to create for ourselves instead of just being ourselves...
Me cousin stopped the smoking and has cut much back on his drinking. Had to get a stint in his heart when he was 65 (he 's 70 now) due to a life of rich livin!
