    ANGRY AS HELL

I am trying to process something that makes no sense.

My company is transitioning to a new pay schedule. Say the pay period is from the 1st to the 15th and we get paid on the 15th. This check will now be given on the 22nd one week later. Here is the good part-
This transition is in August. The week you "lose" is truly lost. We will get a check for one week at this time-meaning 1/2 of your pay. There is no "catch-up" for this.

They have said if this is a hardship for you-DUH-that you can receive a "transition payment", meaning the damn $$$ you have already earned. THEN if you do--your next 6 checked will be short due to PAYING THIS BACK. OR you can have YOUR OWN $$ back WHEN YOU LEAVE THE COMPANY.

I make good $$ but this is a huge deal for me! As I absorbed all this yesterday and the ramifications I was stunned. I need to move in Sept and have very little $$ in the bank.
The amount they are taking from me is a lot, and I simply do not know how I am going to deal with this. The transition bullshit is on August. Great timing-screws up all my plans to move and get set up in a less expensive place. Since they will raise my rent here I cannot stay here; I can no longer afford it since they raise it every year.

I am angry. I am unsure of what to do. This seems so WRONG TO ME! With about 490,00 employees world wide they are going to take a huge amount of money and I'm sure invest it and make more. WTF???

I have 2 wealthy brothers but I doubt if they will help. Such a bunch of bullshit.

Sorry for ranting, I really am. I thought of drinking all day yesterday. It was a beautiful perfect day and I thought of going to a place nearby and sitting outside with my guitar and beer. I did not, I came home and took my antabuse and tried to think of what the hell to do.

*SIGH* Thank you all for being here. I guess I'll make it somehow.

    AC,

Take the issue to the Labor Board in your state and find out if this is legal. The Labor Board is usually a division of the Employment Development Division of the state.

We transitioned pay dates a few years ago and I never really did the math. We were told it was a change that was employee driven. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't- will never know.

Good luck to you and I would like to know if this is legal so please let us know if you find out.

    All the best,
    lucky

I was thinking more about this issue. It is 100% illegal not to be paid for hours worked. I was part of a team 6 who sued my company of 74k employees for back commission that was to be lost during a merger and they tried to make the comp plan retroactive. We ended up settling. So, I have been part of something similar. In fact, it is 15 years later and I still work for the same co. We are so large that I don't think anyone locally even knows about the lawsuit!

Again, good luck. Nothing is more stressful than money issues and especially when you are not paid for work put in. Smells very fishy.

Ann, I have no clue as to what you should do but do know (as Lucky stated) that it is totally illegal to not get paid for hours worked. Sounds like the big guns know their way around that sticky little issue, though.

The problem with pursuing justice is that it's usually costly both financially and emotionally. It would take a group of employees getting together and then it would be such a drain of time, energy and well-being. That's why the big guys win - sad.....

Sending you positive vibes. So glad you didn't cave in to drinking - then they would really have won!!

        Best to you,

Ann - I do think that you go to the labor board and just ask them if this is legal. See what they have to say. I'm so sorry. This just does not sound right at all. :h

Ann, does your company have a company discussion board? Like Yammer? We have one where I work, it might be a good place to bring it up and gauge the reactions of other folks in similar boats. Not being paid for hours worked is wrong! Maybe you could check with your HR department, or your boss. I'm so sorry you are stressed....staying sober will go a long way to dealing better with whatever comes your way. AL makes all things WORSE. (as you know). Please do keep us posted. Byrdie

Ann, Are you kidding? Do you mean to say 490,000 employees are going to accept a weeks loss of income lying down because management wants to rearrange some pay dates and periods? I am not sure how things work in the US. Here in OZ there would be a massive strike. I have not heard of anything like it! Good that you remained strong. IF it was me I think I would have hit the booze. But that only makes things worse,as we all know. Good Luck. Let us no the outcome won't you.
