    Army Thread Thursday 27th June

InChains;1524609 wrote: zen - unfortunately i tend to agree with my mothers former psychiatrist who -tactfully- explained she had the emotional age of about 8 or 9. attempting to explain the concept that other people have feelings and she can be wrong typically results in a reaction that pretty much demonstrates that fact. Its very hard to find a way of making her understand a different point of view and that by saying i disagree it's not a personal insult, it's just how i see things.

i'm going to apologize now i'm talking about myself alot, i'm tying to keep ya'll up to date instead of retreating like i usually do when i'm struggling with things - but i must admit i'm not overly engaged in the world outside at the moment.
    No need for apologies Inchy.

Funnily enough, my mum is the same... her emotional growth was arrested, probably due in part to her being chronically sick as a child, so I know that of which you speak. Everything revolves around mine also and it's very hard to talk to her about something she's doing or whatever without her taking it as an insult. I use the "I feel __________ when you __________" (fill in the blanks) approach that my therapist recommended.

My one has a terrible temper and I never get through a holiday without her losing the plot with me. She went berserk last Sunday evening so at least it's out of the way now...

my mum developed mental health problems very early in life so it pretty much explains why she didn't grow up - it's just unfortunate that if i tell her how i feel, and its not how she would -like- me to feel then she just gets confused and angry. pain in the ass really but whatcha gonna do? haha the temper things true of my mother too, although thank god when she's on her meds properly she's at least not violent when angry coz that really got old fast xD
I have faced it, a life wasted, and I am never going back there again

To ya'll my name is inchy. I am an alcoholic - and priority number one is making it to the end of this day AF. No excuses.

Hi again fell back asleep and woke up to heavy rain. Still in my pink and grey butterfly and hearts pjs. Talk about taste in sleep wear lol. Sorry to hear about probs with you mums Zen and Inchy tho your mum is older Zen not sure if it makes a difference as it seems both yours and Inchy have similar problems or may be i'm wrong. Sorry your other half can't be around for you right now Inchy as he has his own family issuesto deal which hopefully will settle down and you can be there for each other. Seems you both need the support. Don't worry about talking about yourself and any issues you have that's what the forum is for and we're here for you. I have to get dressed and head out looks like the rain has eased so best get going. later folks. :cupajoe::wavin:

You're very mature for you age Inchy seems like your the mother in the family most of if not all of the time pity your mum cannot be more supportive but with her mental health issues she most likely thinks she or something failed along the way if she hears your problems. I hope she gets a bit better with the right meds. Oh dear does she get violent at times? I hope not with you. Mental health problems are complex and I don't have a lot of experience with it but have known people with bio polar and scizafrenia issues sorry for spelling. Another coffee and ought to make a move. Have a terrific Thursday if you can army.

mothers bipolar and schizotypal - she used to be violent to us but not since she's had medication. she's been getting worse again lately and took an overdose about a month ago. shes better now than she was then.
