    Underoo's and friends July 2013.

So Techie, a friend sent me an email of lovely pics that do the rounds and this snake was amongst them.. I think it lives in Nevada? Isn't it magnificent.

And of course everyone who has email has seen this by now....

And finally to the guessing competition. What is Mr Rags baking for me?????

That's a nice matched set of new potato bins there Happs.

Who was talking about those dreadful KMart ads.??
What drives me spare is the bloody Woolworths girly singing Monday Tuesday Wednesday etc. I could cheerfully run a knife through her eagerly pulsing heart.

        The things I remember.
Bridge, do you remember ages and ages ago talking about how you got some Afghan bread and had it with soup?
Well, I tracked down the same Afghan bread a while ago and it was dreadful.
I thought to my self what on earth could Bridge like about this stuff and I fed it to my worms in the compust heap.
Well, when I was getting stuff for the little dinner party I had a couple of weeks ago, I came across the same Afghan bread and thought I'd give it another crack. It didn't feel anything like the first lot I had so I bought it. It was absolutely WONDERFUL The Country Grocer stocks it, so I'll be a regular customer for the bread. They also do a brilliant ciabatta.

He bought you socks you say?

          Were they used? Or pristine?

Sorry I didn't see your tracky dacks Reg....

That's the sort of dirty talk stuff I'd expect to hear from the desert dweller. Wonder how he's doing with that rim thingy.

                  Morning for Alabama, Undies.

TF, did you really watch Reg dock his boat? Or am I, as usual, taken?

The picture of the snake is a little suspect. I've never heard of or seen one that colorful. Can't see the tail but suspect it is a rattler.

Coyotes may be able to run faster than a road runner, but the little guys can fly, so they are fairly safe from Wiley. Loved watching them when I was living in Oklahoma. They really did run along the roads.

Rags, not sure what hubby is cooking for you. Have you upset him in some way?

Googling Afghan bread. Not heard of it here but may be able to find a recipe. Since I've been sober, I keep cooking and baking. Irritates hubby because he is trying to lose weight.

Which reminds me. I am trying all different kinds of curry recipes but not having great success. Any advice on recipes and ingredients? I like the milder yellow curries.

Definitely jealous about the gardening, MyHapps. Hubby was sick the entire spring so no prep work was done for my gardening. Pretty much only have a container tomato, strawberries and rasberries atm. Even my patio flower bed is lying fallow this year other than the cockscomb that are coming up from seed. Next year, though!!

Speaking of dogs. I only started getting dogs when I was older. My first two were Great Pyrenees. Incredibly gentle giants. When I lost them, my heart was so devastated. After time, I realized that the loss was worth the time I had with them. Today I have Poulan, who is almost seven. He is quite a handful but another faithful loving friend. I hope I have many more years left with him.

Reggie, I would love to actually hear you speak. Sometimes your posts require a bit of effort on my part to figure out. :-) My mind fills in the sound and it seems like it would be lovely.

                  Hi, Bridge!!

Just a ramble here. I so enjoy peeking into all your days and lifestyles there. MWO has made this planet a very small world.

For those about to wander off to bed, nighty night and good rest.

                  Love,
                  Cindi

                    Mild and tasty.

                      Happs,

The recipe looks perfect. I have some questions, though, and hope you have a bit of time to answer.

Mustard seeds. Are these simply the dried mustard seeds purchased in the spice aisle?

Curry Leaves? I think I shall have to find an Indian store to purchase. Are they fresh or dried? In the US, I have only seen curry powder or curry paste.

Green Chilli. Can you describe the fruit so I can decide what kind of chili pepper to buy? We have many different green chilies.

Chilli Powder. We have that, also but am wondering if it is the same. We use it mostly in Spanish cooking. Dark red powder with a pungent flavor.

This doesn't call for cilantro. Do you typically use cilantro as a garnish on your curries? Or is that a US adaptation?

I prefer yogurt to the coconut milk. Although I do have coconut milk in the cupboard. Would that change the taste too much? The Greek yogurt I use gives curry sauces a richer flavor and texture. I will bow to your advice, though. I would like to taste the recipe as it looks much more like the curries I have tasted in the larger city's restaurants where I believe we have better Indian cuisine.

                      Thanks!!

Cindi, just a few thoughts and maybe the other Undies can chime in as I'm not as familiar with what you can get in the US. The mustard seeds are the little yellow ones in the spice aisle, make sure they are fresh - as in check the date. Curry leaves can be bought fresh or dried and I've used both, I like fresh best. A green chili I think is used because it is a milder chilli, not as hot as some of the red ones so think mild whatever colour you use, its about flavour more than heat. Not sure on the chili powder as what we have here is generally dried and ground red chilli. I think most of these ingredients you should be able to buy in an Indian store. I don't generally use cilantro although I think it would be tasty, I use it in on a dahl I make to garnish and its good. I would stick with the coconut milk, it will give the authentic flavour you're after. :l

                          Happs,

                          Thanks for the info.

I think I found the answer to the chilli pepper:

Green Chilies : There are many green chilies available in the stores, starting from finger hot chilies, jalapeno peppers, Anaheim peppers and more. In Indian grocery stores you will find very small hot green chilies. These are very hot and therefore you must use caution when using them in a recipe. The ones that work well for Indian cooking are the Anaheim hot chilies.
                          We have those in abundance.

I am going to try this recipe this week. Hubby loves curry.

                            Hi Cindi and Undies!

The recipe actually does call for cilantro - the Brits call it coriander, but they mean the same thing we mean when we say cilantro. And using yogurt should not affect the taste too much, but the dish will be thicker than if you use coconut milk. Finally, here is a pic of the chilis I use in my Indian dishes - the same kind I used to see in the grocery stores in India when I lived there. They are cayenne peppers.

Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.
