    Beer Festival

Is this the sort of thing I should give a miss do you think? I have classed myself as a once weekly drinker. If I drink on a night out with my friends, one leads onto another, and another and so on.

I just can't see any reason to be there other than it will be a chance to see friends who I haven't seen in a while.......but obviously they will be getting very drunk.

Anyone gone to such an event sober? Coming up to 3 weeks AF. When the event is here I should be 7 weeks AF.

A great big howling YES!! Give it a miss.

I don't mind going out for meals, pub quizzes, parties but a day or two where the main topic of errrrr interest is alcohol.

Why put yourself through an event when by the third or fourth drink your friends will start repeating the same sentence, getting louder and louder. And I'll bet you a pound to a penny they'll be forcing your arm to have 'just the one'.

Ask yourself is it really worth it.
It could be worse, I could be filing.
    AF since 7/7/2009

Agreed. This is the sort of thing I would only do if I was actively taking Antabuse (but that is just me). Give it a pass.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

Thanks. It makes more sense sometimes when you hear other people tell you what you need to hear.

I went out yesterday for a day where drink was not the focus.

I was with two friends. They both had drinks throughout the day. One of them was fine and the other one proceeded to get more drunk as the day went on. Talking rubbish, being slightly annoying.

It would be 10x worse if it is 5+ being pissed. I think I realise that I need to 'drop' 'friends' who I have only socialised with around drink and change my way of life.

Well, I told them all that I won't make it.

          They asked what was up.

I just said I did not want to go.....no need to explain myself. The AF mindset is growing in this one

Londoner, how strong you are. I'm impressed. Guard your sobriety! No one is worth compromising it for in my humble opinion.

Right on! Your life, your choices, no need to explain. I hope you can find more and more friends who aren't all about getting wasted. Do you have "meet up" in London? Here I found groups for walking, hiking, biking, paddling, yoga, you name it.

Yeah, we have meet up. I need to look into it.
Am also taking up some volunteer work on Sundays-conservation work in the local Green belt area

I just think the more you branch out the more likely you are to meet people who want to do things other than party, you know? Good on you for volunteering!

I personally would stay home. Even myself would stay home. Sure I can go out without drinking, but I don't want to surround myself with days of it. Sure I would more than likely be able to do it, but I don't want to push it that much.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Ya I lived in Germany for 3 years ! Beer is a staple.....they even have children's beer. They look at beer differently....they don't abuse it like we do here. You can't drink the water........you got drink something ! ha! ( I personally like the Fraulein 3rd form the left ! Ha! Proust ! Ha!)

I can't see any reason to dance with the devil.
                        I would definitely not go.
It would be like going out in the rain and expecting to not get wet!

Londoner, I read in the nest that you had a slip. Please don't be too hard on yourself. And don't let it turn into a long thing. The sooner you get a few AF days behind you the better you will feel.

I just watched Rain in my Heart, holy smokes, what an eye opener have you seen it?
