    A tale of my night

    Last night, nothing went right, my oven blew up, my brother was a pain in the ass, my car had broken, and things have been strained at work.
    The old devil of alcohol promised me a night of oblivion away from my stresses with his familiar "you deserve it" mantra. I was sssoooooo tempted and had started to even imagine my night, kicking back, watching dexter and getting buckled on heineken.

    So, I did the garden instead, i weeded it , ripped up all sorts, planted everything i could find, and then painted a floor! All this time i was wondering what time it was (You can't buy booze after ten pm here).
    The night went by and my anger and frustration subsided, it got till midnight and i sat and watched dexter (my fav show) sober, and with some irn bru (a Scottish soft drink).

    I woke up glad to be sober and so glad that little f....er of a voice in my head that promised me a good time had been subdued, i know the "good time" would have meant vomiting today, missing work maybe, feeling ill all day and shaking and sweating , I had won a victory for one night, but the war is for life, I hope my wee story helps someone .

    Well done my friend.

    From one Scotsman to another I know exactly what you mean.

    I was watching Coronation Street last night ( I know, no sniggering please) and watching the characters drinking almost had me out the door and off to the shop. If had though, I would have tanned that, gone to the pub before closing time and then headed off to town to a nightclub and ended up in the situation you have described so accurately. But I didn't. I feel different about this quit. Much more resolute than other times before.

        FREEDOM! You Scotts have it all. Love you. PS have you seen the video of the two lads in the elevator that only moves on voice recognition? Died laughing. I will find it and post the link.

        Ach here ya are.

          thanks scottishman. I know the feelings only too well - you "you deserve it" voice & I definitely relax after 11pm when I know I can't get any AL. the power of distracting yourself is not to be underestimated!

            Yes. It's hysterical. Have you seen the one where they remake an incident of daily abuse into a Hollywood Blockbuster? If not, I'll send you that link. It's wet yourself funny!

                Here ye go.

                Irn Bru is affectionately known here as "ginger" because of its colour.

                    Well done Scottishman. My garden is my safe haven too. So in Scotland you are still planting stuff in late July? We get frost in October (at the latest) and not sure if I could plant now although I have seeds hanging around I could make use of.

                    Stay sober and happy. :-}
