Is there anything on tv at the moment? The menfolk have resorted to watching the Hobbit on DVD and Dr Who re runs...

        Evening roo's,

Well i tells ya! Yeah nah yeah nah......nah, struth i'm absolutely knackered after work here tonight. Combo of flat out headspinning duties and a bit of a flu, clogged up head sort. I'm laying in bed tomorrow real late, and i am gonna do nuthin, nothin i tell's ya's. I bet any soup on offer here would sooth me old soul big time, especially the cauliflower one.

Geez Cozza, i had no idea you are moving. Sounds like there's no turning back! Do what you gotta do friend. Safe travels and take good care of yourself.

Lol Missy. I remember you saying about how you and Mr B met. Glad you're walking that treck along the beach. I used to run it. It's a pearler.

        I'm fusked!

          Hey Reggiestarbucklebarnaclehunter!

Wonder what the other Reg is flogging? Hopefully not a dead 'orse in the booze caper.

Orf to the 'I got drunk last night and cheated on me dog' thread, then just before bedtime it'll be a toss up between 'Catholic corner', 'Colon irrigation' thread, or the 'Was Jesus gay?' thread over in what we believe.

          Yo!

Hi all. You Undies are funny.

Frog, you are so particular with grammar that it struck me odd that you started the thread with '13 and not 2013.

I cannot believe how many Undies either have chickens or long for chickens. Forgive me, I meant chooks.

I would love a copy of the vegetarian version of the Undie Cookbook.

Cori, I am excited for you and your new life!!!! All the best to you.

                        Will google/bing Lurpak. No idea.

EDIT: I also have no idea what is meant regarding horses in August. ???

And one more thing, are smoked almonds really such a novelty down under? I live the land of almonds and Blue Diamond- may even go on their tour! I learn CRAZY things from all of you odd folks! And love it! But keep the Dairy Whip. It is just wrong!

Morning all, from a blustery Melbourne and a blustery but relaxed G bloke still clogged up, but feeling a little better thank you umpire.

G'day Lucky. Good to see you! I hope all's good there with you and your's friend.

'Horses in August' is a classic Aussie saying that has been around for years.

Here's an example............'i wouldn't do that job for all the horses in august!'

It basically means....'i wouldn't do something for nothing'. The saying (if my memory serves me correctly, and no guarantee of that) comes from circa 1860's in the northern Australian desert. Camels were imported here from the middle east by Arabic settlers, and were a reliable and valuable mode of transport through desert terrain. One day, in the month of August, a wily Welsh settler, James Chisolm-Gillard arrived in an outback camel camp with 50 wild horses he'd captured, in tow. Now James was no fool, he knew the benefits of a camel over a horse in the desert.

The story simply goes that Chisolm-Gillard wished to trade 10 horses for 1 camel. The camel man replied......'I wouldn't give you one of my camels for all the horses in August'.

'I am part of all that I have met, yet all experience is an arch wherethro', gleams that untravelled world whose margins fade, forever and forever when I move'

                              Morning MrG and Lucky,

Great to see you here Lucky - I'm so glad Mr.G set us straight re the Horses Birthday because I used to think that

All thoroughbreds have the same birthday so that their ages can be standardized for comparison because of the historical lack of records of actual birth days. Their birthdays are January 1st in the northern hemisphere and August 1st in the southern hemisphere. After the first time a horse is alive on August 1st it is considered a yearling. The next August 1st is it's 2nd birthday and it is considered 2 years old, even though it could conceivably be one year one day old. How stupid of me!

And yeah , I'm still pissed off about the '13 thingy. Just plain sloppy.

I think you'd like chooks - they make lovely pets.

Still pitch black so I don't yet know how the day will unfold. Lurpak will be involved but NO dairy whip. Guaranteed, but thanks anyway, Reggie.

Heyzeus i can't believe i just sat out in there2 degrees posting then to have it vanish! I posted at 4.34 am, cos i cannot sleep.
Tawny is right about the horses in August , lucky. It's to standardize ages for racing. All race horse breakers want their foals born in august so they are the biggest, best grown they can be when they start racing as 2 yr olds, when racing starts here in Oz in springtime.
G bloke is prolly also somewhere on the mark with his folk lore burble .

Morning all my hands are frozzed .
Buying fridge and tv today. Whizzo .
Not making any soup but found an easy recipe for flatbread ....
I see it's heston week next week on mc . I am intrigued by him. In a non sexual way of course.
