    Hey Glassy,

He's a newish one to me. Hard to say, and this is my question too. I suspect he may err toward yer confrontational, but i couldn't say as yet. He certainly stands up for me in the 2 meetings we've been at. Not aggressive though.

    How are you going?

As long as he's not aggressive that's OK. I don't think these union guys realise sometimes that they're not doing their cause much good by getting everyone's backs up. If he does, it may be worth having a quiet word with him.

Now - I've been meaning to say that if you and Bridgey are still having difficulties with your communication network please feel free to carry on your personal communication via this thread. It's more fun than Wimbledon watching the scores rise on each side. :H

I'm good btw. Doing a slightly different job at work for a few weeks which is good. (on top of my own of course, but that's the public service for you).

OK - well that's handy because I like to talk about stuff! Give me a few minutes to figure how to make a long story short and I'll fill you in.

Right. So are you sitting comfortably?

Once upon a time a beautiful princess went to Antarctica. It was one of those life hands you lemons type scenarios. We were burgled and all my jewellery was stolen and I received an insurance payout. I was devastated and didn’t want to buy more jools because everything I lost had sentimental value (most of it from my parents' travels all around the world), so I used the money to go to Antarctica instead. It was on a small-ish ship (198 passengers) and the trip was lovely but we could only make about 8 landings for about 2 hours at a time. And lots of the peeps spent a fortune in $$ and days to go to the most remote, silent place on earth and then they.just.wouldn’t.stop.talking! And also, they said the penguins were noisy and smelly. Fuskwits! Short of getting a penguin posse together to push them down a glacier there was nothing I could do.

Fast forward a few years, and a couple of weeks ago I just happened to be browsing and daydreaming and I came across the little red boat. I was hoping to go in Jan 2015, but they might not have a spot next year because they do bulk charters, but they happen to have a spare space for Jan 14 instead. I’ve chatted by email to the owner and skipper (Cath) and she’s really lovely and is very keen for me to join them because she really wants to have another woman on board. So I kind of signed up, but I’m a bit nervous because a) lots of $$ and days again, and also b) it’s for a month and it just occurred to me that a month with 9 strangers on a small boat in a very cold place might be a wee bit uncomfortable and if I don’t like it, there ain’t a hell of a lot of places I can go!

And also, I found out today that I may not be able to get leave approved anyway because my partner at work forgot to tell me he also wants leave to take his family camping! And of course kiddy stuff in the hols always takes precedence!

But hopefully they all lived happily ever after.

Evening all! Glassy, that's a great story, I do hope that all of the bits come together and you manage to make this trip, it sounds wonderful.

                          Welcome back Missy!

Glad you had someone to download to Mr G, its very important to share stuff, it lightens the load.

Froglette, so lovely that you caught up with your BIL. And no regular teaching gig for me yet, I'll just keep doing fill and volunteer stuff for now. Suits me and the family. And I have a suspicion I could become a tad addicted :H not that I'm not now...

I have read and committed to memory all of above and I have one question.
Glassy why do the breeders get precedence for holidays? Isn't it first in best dressed?
I think you should go on your little red boat.
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

I think so too, but we're a 'family friendly' workplace. The problem is that we all have a 'buddy' that we're supposed to work it out with for ourselves before we apply for leave. But there's no plan for what happens if you and your buddy can't work it out. I kind of have trumps because I'm on the excess leave register, but then he can always pull the kiddy card.
