Another challenge that I am dealing with is that while I recover, I am staying at my parents home. Their shops/ garages are less than a mile from here so if anything that I needed, they could literally be here in 45 seconds. BTW, they have been MORE than what a parent should be. They have gone out of their way to not only make me comfortable, but to make me know that they are here for me every step of the way. Anyway, they have a full wine cellar and liquor cabinet here and I spend most of the day here alone. When they come home, they both pour a glass of wine each, which leads to several after that. That is fine for them, but I am so comitted to this that I havent even thought about it until just now (that it exists in the house). I am sure that when I go back to my own home, I will not have any alcohol in the house (I live alone) unless I am having a guest over. I guess I find it strange that I have no problem being around people drinking, which was a concern of mine. This is where I really wanted this to be, an issue of mind over matter only. Not a physical dependency thing. I have even thought about popping in on some of the local AA meetings, but I think that might be going overboard. As I said in my first post, the decisions that you make while in a state of drinking, not neccesarily a drink IN HAND, but in that mode on a daily basis, impedes the thinking process. I wonder that if I had realized this while I was in my young 30's, would I still be married to my first wife, of which happens to be one of my best friends to this day. Alas, I cant worry about yesterday. I have today and tomorrow and some beautiful sons to concern myself about and their futures. Again, thanks for all of the well wishes. - Chris.

          Chris,
I am so happy you are back, and I am glad you have made great progress with your health and AF, I missed you. It is sad sometimes it takes something like this to make us really analyze what is going on in our lives, but at the same time I am happy for you because it allowed you to have freedom from alcohol. I am just glad you are back, chat is not the same without you.

Wow, very inspiring story. I am very glad you shared and that you are still with us. I do have a question though... was your heart surgery due to alcoholism? In other words were you drinking so heavily that you injured your heart?

              Chris,
I am really inspired by your story and how much this experience has affected you. I guess being forced into detox, you have managed to come out on the other side; possibly something you would not have been able to do by your own free will. It sounds like a painful blessing in disguise, but the confidence you speak of and the determination is inspiring to us all.

Thanks for sharing, and best wishes in a speedy recovery.

                Dear Chris,

We haven't met since I don't go to chat. (I have to work sometime!) Anywho, thanks so very much for the post. yours is a truly amazing story. I think everyone will benefit from meeting you.

Can I just caution you on the coumedin, please watch yourself carefully, make sure you don't have any accidents. My dad is now on it for life as he has had 3 blood clots now. That stuff wreaks some havoc so just be super careful!

Good on you that they have drinks in the house and they drink in front of you and it is OK! Sounds like you were also blessed with some super parents!

                Hugs,
                Mary

Again, thanks guys. No, HC it is NOT a new heart, I am a REAL boy!! Hablur, no this was not alcohol induced. I was born with it and was told years ago to expect this procedure to be done. Not to say that alcohol didnt influence the valves deterioration, I dont think anyone actually can or cant say, but at this point it it history and not part of today or tomorrow so it doesnt matter. All I can say is to all of you, if I were to right now come into your house and tell you what you were going to do, how you were going to feel, etc. What would you do? You would tell me to go to Hell and kick me out. Not to stand on a soapbox right now, but that is what everyone that allows alcohol into their lifes that believe there is a problem. They are an old friend or relative that seem to never leave, even though you bitch about them behind their back. Its time to kick that old friend out and tell them you would prefer to live alone.
