Luv - I knew I could find your price. But the battle is not lost yet
TIT- Sorry to hear about your bad news, but didn't I read in your other posts that you've beat the big C? You've already proven your metal - that surgery will be a piece of cake for a super woman like you.
Morrison- sure would like to see you post. Hope your doing OK.
Boots - what happened with the fire trucks in yer hood last night?
Beth - you been in your studio lately? Just go out there and sweep the floor and make sure there is a clean bench/table easel. Then you'll wake up tomorrow and hear that call in your head..... Beth.... go create something.
I have a very cool friend who I met when I worked in albuquerque. He bought a place up in the mountains and I worked with him converting the barn into a terrific shop. Practical, but rustic (barn, duh) with plenty of natural light. He put a potbellied stove in there for heat. I'll tell you, if you had no inspiration whatsoever in your heart, but you walked out there on a cold morning with a cup of coffee and sat next to that warm stove and let your eyes and thoughts wander around the shop, by the time you were finished with that cup of coffee you'd be 10 kinds of motivated and dive into something.
I learned over time - it wasn't the first thing that he wanted you to know about himself - that he had run a successful prototype and custom design house for years catering to architects and designers in Manhatten (you know how THEY can be ). The pressure finally made him snap and his therapist told him he HAD to change his life in a major way. So he sold the business, moved to New Mexico and took a job as a machinist (and very importantly, no one's boss) to heal his mind and soul.
I enjoyed being his friend and learned tons from him about machining, design and finding what's fullfilling on your life. He's back east now and back in design, but lower pressure, more fun (he designs museum and show exhibits) married, raising two steps. I get word from time to time about his shop and his work and it keeps me active in my metal work. I really feel like I was blessed to be there during that chapter of his life. Its a very special thing to watch and even help as someone heals their heart and soul. I think one day, we'll all look back on our time here the same way. For now I'm enjoying the journey.
Dear lord, I blather on when I'm sober. Gotta lighten up for pete's sake!
