I have a lot of experience employment wise ranging from person centred counselling, forensic children, autism and learning disablities, older people and working alongside psychologists, i specialise in supporting people with personality disorders , and i regularly attend psychology lead meetings with 4 psychologists and i work with one psychologist in his session with a young schizophrenic female in forensic services due to the fact she engages better in the psychological process if I am there. I was also a psychological research assistant and i have my first publication soon. I also do a lot of work in self harm and suicide prevention
Great stuff Pinkie. And huge congratulations on 1 yr. 4mths.

I'm a mental health outreach worker and recently attended a borderline personality disorder workshop with the facilitator having a lived experience. She says BPD is largely from trauma experience. What do you think?

Wow I'm impressed. I'm doing an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy, don't have all your experience but I've done a counselling skills basic course, and been volunteering with a mental health charity over summer. Not provided any real live counselling yet, I only have my own experiences to go off, but that should change in the New Year.

Might have to pick your brains at some point.

I have a borderline personality disorder myself I am classed as being in recovery and a functioning borderline, thats how I got my job working with others who have BPD. Yes personality disorders are mainly from trauma especially BPD. However, some other personality disorders can come from neglect, inconsitency in parenting and there is some research going on that some may say its genetic in some cases. I think the nurture, nature debate will always be ongoing and its just specilaising in the person that brings results, so why the person thinks they have their specific difficulties and working on that, and not labelling everyone as having trauma, as they may not be ready to admit they have experienced trauma. person centred working with PD seems to work best

I worked as a voluntary person centred trainee counsellour with sexual abuse and had 2 clients i seen for a period of 1 year. my advice is to just keep applying for placements, it took me 1 year to get one and many knock back letters later I got the placement.

                Afternoon!

Sorry about the sick tummy molls - hope it sorts itself out quickly.

Hope your dad isn't expecting you to actually go up on the roof puddles - do you have a head for heights?

Enjoy your time with your daughter EW.

Lots of studying going on in the army, it would seem. Thank gawd my studying days are over. Mind you, when I stopped studying, I started drinking, so maybe I should have stuck to the studying after all. Did you find an alternative to your nutrition course, satzy?

Ah...that's a shame satzy, but January's not too far away. Don't forget there are online and distance studying courses available too, and some of them allow you to begin studying at any time of the year.

Afternoon all, I reckon you would make a great teacher, poet, writer etc. Satz but hasn't Arsey got you down as our resident doctor?

Hip and knee still sore but less so today. I probably would hardly notice if I didn't have a marathon lined up on Sunday!

I am so glad my study days are over. I was lucky Blondie because of my previous work as a Midwife when I studied for my masters in counselling I had enough connections to get plenty of placements. It is worth asking social services and local voluntary organisations if you could do some work with their client group(s)

                          Have a great afternoon gang

Hope the hip and knee ease-up soon MrsA. Never heard of magnesium spray. Wot does that do Doc Satz? And where would ye get it?

Sorry to have missed Pinky and MrG- string (good one Doc!) hope ye both are well?

Glad to hear that treatment place worked out for the man Blondie- just the bit I seen this morn made me feel v uncomfortable for him.

Wonder how D'Arsey and Questy got on in their respective first days? And when's Jacks back from rockin in the caravan? And Molls- where'd ye go?

Thanks for the pointers, I'm not at placement point yet especially since there's an essential bit of paperwork I'm waiting to be returned.

Meantime I've got a list of places to think about, I've an idea I might do something with an organisation who help survivors of sexual abuse. I think I can handle it. There might also be a possibility with the charity I'm with at the moment(they've mentioned it once or twice). Just going to bide my time, do the right things and see what happens. Oh and I also have a specialist area I'm interested in (I have specific life experience in a particular area)but might have to travel to work in that. Nowt for it around here.
