Hi all, I would like to introduce someone into this thread...she goes by the name "Galahad"... She is a remarkable woman who probably doesn't realize it because she is also a stubborn woman, lol.(so she will be in good company here) Nonetheless please give here a warm welcome ... If she gets half the benefit I have from being here it will make me happy. She should be along shortly. Thx

              SOBER OCTOBER

Thank you Tom, for the kind intro to the group, you've been a real help to me throughout my latest attempt at sobriety, and I'll take the compliment and the stubborness as well--I plan to be just as stubborn this time about recovery as I have been about drinking

I've been reading through the October group posts, which seem incredibly supportive and encouraging, and would love to be a part of it. I have 30 day sober today. Lord knows I've had that amount of time in the past, but I am willing to do what it takes to make it stick. I agree with Tom, whatever route to recovery anyone uses that works for them is good by me. I am using both online AA, AA, and now this positive group because I need it!

Just a little about my drinking history--I always have been an alcoholic drinker from the jump, both my parents are alcoholics (one is sober now, the other is not), and I had almost 8 years sober before I threw it away and became a very dangerous binge drinker, with periods of sobriety in between. There's no question in my mind that I am very unsafe picking up that first drink, so now I need all my resources to stay away from that first drink, over and over again, until it no longer is an issue. I had that feeling of relief when I was sober, and then went on a date one night, and decided I was "normal" and had a glass of wine. Well, turns out I'm not abnormal, I'm just another alcoholic, and am very grateful to be here, and to be among other sober people who are helping each other.

Thanks Tom, and hello October group! Gally

Hey Gally - welcome to the Stubborn Women's Group. :H

Seriously - really glad that you have joined us. Congratulations on 30 days!!! :goodjob: I think it's great that you are using different resources to protect your sobriety.

About me - I'm 54 years old, married and we have a 26 year old son. As you can see, I've been here for a long time and I'm still finding my way. I'll get periods of sober time in but don't stick with it. So, I'm really happy to have this group.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know you. Thanks for joining us. :h

Welcome Galahad. You are in good company. Your friend, Tom has been an awesome supporter here on this thread and, together we have found a lot of success. United we stand, divided we fall, as they say. Stick close by and visit the newbies nest. Lots of year round support there.

Thanksgiving was great. No temptation. Only my DIL got loaded and she is under a lot of stress and knows she has a problem. My Becks non alcohol beer was a hit with my adult kids. Warmed my heart.

Lizanne, great going on the abstaining at the big do. You rock. Once the initial first or second round of drinks are refused, it gets easier.

Nora, welcome. Antabuse ,finger plug, meditation, whatever floats your boat.

Glad to hear you came out of it well, Sober, and thank you for the kind words...whether I deserve them or not. For the first time in a long while we had booze in the house tonite. My suggestion and my treat. I never came close to even entertaining the thought of drinking but I did suggest it to see how my mind would handle it....would I be able to just go about my business without distraction? Big yes on that one. I even sniffed someone's drink, much to their surprise and my delight. Sometimes it's good to unpack a challenge every once In a while I guess. Wasn't feeling so great about myself today so every little bit helped.

I, actually, was handed a glass of what I thought was my sparking grape juice and, accidentlally sipped someone's wine. I got rid of it immediately but I would be lying if I didn't say I liked it. Gave it back pretty damn quick, that I'll say.

                              SOBER OCTOBER

Thanks for nice welcome Tom, Nora, and Sober--Just got back from aa meeting where I got my 30 day chip, and I have to say, I'm really happy about it this time around.

Nora, love your handle. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the Thin Man movies, and in college, we used to play that old drinking game where every time Nick or Nora took a drink, we did too. Amazing I even remember those movies at all!!

I'm with you, Nora, I've been in and out, and hoping to stay with the "in" crowd, that is, the sober ones.

And Sober, congrats on getting through family time sober without any temptations, amazing and great.

And Tom, nice to pass our own tests sometimes to boost our self esteem and what AA calls "sober reference," meaning, you got through it sober, you can do it again. And again. And again.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone more, have a wonderful nite all, Gally

That's an even stronger move , good for you. At least you didn't get a look why is this maniac sniffing my drink.
