I've been doing some research on Australian sites related to Topa and outside of prescriptions for Epilepsy and Migranes there is little suggesting any doctors would consider prescribing it.

Are there any aussies who've been successful in getting it through a doctor or are you purchasing on-line?

I've been on the MYO program for a year now (not abstinent for a year though unfortunately) and have been getting topa from my doctor here in Brisbane since then and can expect to forever more as far as he is concerned.

I think whatever country you live in, you just have to be lucky enough to have a doctor who is forward thinking in the treatment of addictions with regard to medication.

I guess you need to keep looking... I know there are other empathetic doctors are out there in Australia. My doctor is reporting my progress with topa to his alcoholic counselling medical partners.

That's reassuring. We've just moved from Tas to Cairns so I'm feeling really lost. I want to make changes but walking into a doctors and talking about this stuff with someone I don't know at all feels really daunting.

I know I probably need to "interview" a few until I can find a sympathetic ear but I'm feeling so down at the moment that I don't know I could find the strength to do that.

Wish life could be a bit easier - but hey, them's the breaks.

I do know how you feel. When I first confronted my doctor, it was the first time I had ever told him about my drinking problem. Also I had no idea that he counselled alcoholics....

The first time I took a copy of the MYO book in with highlighted bits in about topa and also American clinical studiies that I'd downloaded from the internet to show him. He had never heard of topa for alcoholism before but he was willing to give it a go for me... he is a farsighted type of guy....and he is using me as a guinea pig.

I was really frightened to go to him in the beginning..... but it's worth it....

Hi. I moved from Cairns about 18 months ago and I had a great GP up there in Smithfield. Although I never discussed my 'little problem' with him, I think he will be a good listener (if nothing else). If you're interested, I will find his details and email you.
