Calling All Teachers
Are there any teachers out there in cyberland who are using this program? (especially highschool?). I'm just getting started and thought I'd like to touch base with some of you. I feel guilty every morning - like I'm letting my students down because I'm not giving my best. Sometimes I'm afraid that I like the "high" so much that I won't be able to stop. I never thought I'd end up like this. When I got my job teaching it was all the high I needed. Em -

Re: i know they are here
Hi to you teachers...
I just want to say, dont beat youself up... you are beating us MOMS there to school! LOL!
We come from all walks of life. Moms, teachers, lawyers, doctors, emergency room workers... this does not spare anyone. So dont feel you have something that we do not, you just have to get up a little earlier! Now that would scare me a bit... so how DO you do that? I think I would have to time that last drink to be around 8 p.m.....
Love you teachers!

And I have to add..
I had many mornings when I drove my son to school with a pounding headache and wondered..."Why would anyone want to be a teacher!" LOL!
Now I feel guilty... my daughter is going on her junior year...and I signed up for all sorts of volunteer stuff... love this program!!!!

Okay, yeah. Guilty. High school English teacher. 26 years. Ph. D., the whole thing. Sometimes I think it's the grading that drove me to drink. And I am painfully aware of the irony of my position with these kids who put themselves in such dangerous positions all the time. Just yesterday a new study came out about brain damage in adolescent drinkers and the incidence of alcoholism.

Teaching
Ya, I don't know how English teachers do all that correcting and keep their sanity. At our school, new, young English teachers drop like flies. All they do at nights and on weekends it correct.
So how are you doing with MWO? Is this working for you? I haven't started yet, but hope to get everything together and ready to go by the end of July. That should give me so time to adjust before school starts up again. I relate to the irony of drinking at this level when we preach to the kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Also, there were many mornings when I wondered what the kids were thinking of my groggy, less than enthusiastic presentations. I'm so hoping this program can turn be around. Em

I teach emotionally disturbed teenagers in a public school-----depression, suicidal tendencies, bipolar, anger-management issues, schizophrenia, and on and on.......These children have one thing in common: they have all been abused, emotionally, verbally, physically and/or sexually. Working with these children has helped me to deal with my own abusive childhood. Do I drink because of my own experiences, or because of theirs? Not sure, probably due to my own...so I know it's time to treat myself as kindly and compassionately as I do with my students. And, it's time to get tough with myself, too.....I need to lick this thing now, before it gets worse (and terminal.) I want a happy, healthy productive life as I head into retirement...
So, yes, I'm a teacher....and I drink....

I work primarily with autistic and learning disabled children in an elementary school. Though not a certified teacher, I have many of the same duties. Alcohol abuse is a huge issue in the teaching profession. My husband, a math and physics teacher and coach, has a huge problem.
Guilt is something I struggle with daily, be it about school or otherwise. My gift to myself has been to stop drinking completely this summer. Since both of us are home without structure it can be a very bad mix: .
I did MWO from October to May with some great success. It was those darn slips that taught me I will never be a moderate drinker. I can't say I was ever able to give myself completely to the program as the "dumb-ass" and no orgasm effect of Topa really took its toll. I now do the supps, Allone, and of course, online support aspects of MWO. Don't know where I'd be without everyone here.
In this profession we need to be sharp at all times. Unfortunately neither alcohol nor Topa works for me in any amount. How many times I need to experiment with drinking before I learn my lesson I do not know, but for now my salvation has been Antabuse.
Blessings,
Lori

Re: Teaching
You asked about being ready for the fall. I am incredibly grateful (actually, I'm beginning to think it was a mystical intervention) that I found this program when I did. Usually, I travel in the summer, and for some reason, this summer I had six uninterrupted weeks at home. It was now or never. I found this on a google. If I put all my energy into this right now, then my teaching will be easier than ever next fall. In the meantime, I'm re-reading Jane Eyre.

Re: Teaching
Yep...I'm a teacher. I taught 1st grade for 7 years and Elementary ESL for 2 years and 3rd for 1 year. Then I resigned. I could not do that and raise 4 kids at the same time and keep my sanity. Plus I was becoming quit a lush in the process.
I will say that the teachers I taught with always had an excuse for getting together for Happy Hour. Many got more wasted than I thought was appropriate for a public restaurant. :eek
Teaching is such a difficult job. It is also a thankless job. Those who chose to continue after many years are the cream of the crop in my opinion. I could not.
Hope:h
