    Tobacco/Smoke-Free Roll Call

Ran across this recently... I'm not currently dating, but this was a great reminder, as we all want to feel valued and attractive.

      Tobacco/Smoke-Free Roll Call

I have been quit for 3 Days, 1 hour, 57 minutes and 19 seconds (3 days). I have saved $5.96 by not smoking 27 cigarettes. I have saved 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 3/30/2014 6:30 AM

Thanks for the article Skull...I am not dating either, but it's good to keep in mind. This is very hypocritical of me...but I don't think I'd want to date someone that smokes! How are you feeling these days? Last night I considered running to the "little store" (where I always bought beer and cigs), but then I walked it through and pictured myself going outside (in the rain), smoking, coming back in and having to rinse my mouth, wash hands, put on body spray....the craving passed quickly

        Tobacco/Smoke-Free Roll Call

So I almost caved today. I seriously thought about stopping at the store on the way home for lunch and buying some cigs. I had that damn inner-battle going, but the thought of dying in my early 50's made me realize that I do NOT want to smoke anymore. I'm glad I have nothing at home, because I doubt I would have been strong enough to pass up cigs if they were right in front of me. But I guess today my laziness saved me!

K9, great for you for not caving. When those overwhelming cravings/mental habit urges come, try to remember the gross feeling after a smoke! And pop a nicotine gum or whatever. And just think, you're already halfway through the first week... don't give up!

I have been quit for 4 Days, 2 hours, 10 minutes and 9 seconds (4 days). I have saved $7.92 by not smoking 36 cigarettes. I have saved 3 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 3/30/2014 6:30 AM

I am so glad I made it through yesterday, those thoughts hit me again last night...but I told myself "take a shower and then see how you feel". So I did. Then I said "Have some popcorn and see how you feel". So I did. Etc, etc, etc. I kept delaying it until finally I was ready for bed. I also put one drop of Clove Oil on my thumb and pressed it to the roof of my mouth...I had read that it works to curb cravings...and it DOES!! Another day down!

            Are you feeling strong Skull?

Awesome, K9, glad to hear it! Yes I've actually read that brain scientists have quanitified that cravings last only about 15 minutes in the brain. Thus, if we can distract ourselves/delay the decision for about 15-20 minutes, it goes away. For me, it's all about distractions or replacements, such as you described. Very interesting about the clove oil! I'm going to read up on that, I'm so glad you mentioned that.

As for me-- yes today I have the strength or a hundred men! I feel like a fuckin' superhero. How are you feeling?

Honestly, I am doing the whole wavering/bargaining thing right now. My daughter and I are starting a 6 week High Intensity Interval Training on Monday. So my addict brain is telling me I can go ahead and smoke the next 3 days....and start everything on Monday. How effed up is that?

I know the feeling, but you'll be much better off Monday if you give yourself this weekend to detox your lungs from smoking. Best of luck

I won't buy anymore though. My pack will be gone on Saturday. Sunday I can try to detox (again) and Monday....start my hell at the gym. LOL

Proudly smoke free for 13 years, 5 months. And wouldn't you know I >STILL< have smoking dreams.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

What made you finally quit Alky? And more importantly, how did you STAY quit? I've quit about 100 times so far. Once for 82 days....
