Tobacco/Smoke-Free Roll Call
J-Vo,
When you were talking about putting things in your mouth, I didn't think you were referring to your foot. :H
I am still not smoke-free. Damnit, shit and hell. There, now I feel better.
New goal: Sunday 1/26/14:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
Believe in yourself. You are stronger than you think.

You will get it k9! And haha! Sometimes I'm not referring to my foot, although I don't tell it to an international forum! Oh, shit, why not. I practically tell everyone when I take a crap.Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

15 years now, cigarette free, if only stopping drinking was as easy as this!!!
For me this was easy, but stopping drinking (and staying stopped) is so much harder. Just shows how we are all different!New life started on 1st May 2014, One day at a time I will work at continuing it forever!

Slippery, glad I could help with the images!
DD, I've gone quit so many times. I've gone back mostly due to drinking. I almost feel like if I pick up a drink, it won't be without a smoke. Then if I pick up a smoke, I should have a drink. So I must steer clear of both!Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

Good luck Pete! Need any visualizations, let me know!
My grandfather and grandmother died of lung cancer at 67 and 68 years old. Loved them dearly. They died within 8 months of each other. They were a lovely couple. I lived with them during this time, and I was 23. After gram died first, I quit my pack and half a day habit. Then sadly Pap died with the same disease. My grandfather was diagnosed two years prior to his death. For Gram, it was different. She went into the hospital for one thing, then they found the cancer, removed a lung, then she had a heart attack. I miss them, and they deserved to live longer, but it took both their precious lives.Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

Sorry to hear about your grandparents, jvo. How long ago did that happen? I'm about to turn 28 and have smoked off and on (mostly on) for almost a decade. I was able to quit that last year, though.
I'd love some more visualizations. Though based on your previous two, maybe you should PM me the next oneKnowledge of what is possible is the beginning of happiness.

Thanks for sharing about your grandparents Jvo, and I'm sorry for your loss. My grandfather had heart disease, and was able to manage it for years, but he finally passed away a couple years ago. Others in my family have it too, it runs in my family, and so smoking is very bad for me not only for the obvious lung reasons but also it's a huuuuge contributor to heart disease. So if I want to remain reasonably healthy, smoking is a major no go.
So, I'm committed to quitting this one for good. Today is Day 6 cig-free.
Good luck to everyone this weekend, stay strong!!!

It was a very long time ago. 1987, 1988. I was really close with them. But that took their lives. You know, even though we see people suffer with these diseases, as time goes on, we forget what cigarettes and alcohol can do to our health. My father in law died of alcohol cirrhosis, but did that make me quit? No. Did seeing my grandparents die from cig. make me stay quit? No. I did quit, but that was shortlived. My aunt died at the age of 61 from lung cancer. Yes, all three people I'm talking about were very heavy smokers. But at some point, it does stick if we keep trying. KEEP TRYING! Use any tools you can. It will get easier for us. I know this addiction is one of the hardest to kick. But we can do it!
Pete, yes, I'll keep the pm in mind for next time!
Skull, sorry about your grandfather. and you're so right. Day 6 is great! Keep it goin.Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.

Well, so much for day 1 no dip. I made it a few hours before I caved. I think I need to taper more, but I keep taking big dips to catch a buzz and satisfy my cravings :sigh:
C'mon Pete, visualize the goal! :b&d:Knowledge of what is possible is the beginning of happiness.

j-vo - I am so sorry to hear about your grandparents. What a terrible loss. Hope it's okay if I just jump into this thread - but it's dear to my heart. I am a 40 year smoker who managed to quit four months ago. Hardest thing I ever did in my life. So I just wanted to lend support to anyone giving it a shot.

MossRose, thank you for your support! We could always use it, for sure. Grandparents passed a very long time ago, but I was very close with them. How did you begin your quit? Did you have a support group? I bet you feel so great. Can you tell us how wonderful it is not to be depended on it?
Pete, no big dips! Yes, tapering is the best thing, if you continue to taper. When you quit, you'll be able to increase your endurance! :jumpin:
:bigwink: You can do this Petey!!!!Sometimes what you're most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free.
